While the professional career of Danish tennis player Holger Rune might still be in its infancy, the rising star is capturing attention both on, and off, the court. Specifically when it comes to the internet’s interest in his ranking and relationship status – namely involving those new Holger Rune girlfriend rumours.
Romantic rumours aside, Rune’s fledgling career has already seen the 22-year-old reach a host of impressive milestones.
His official Men’s Singles trajectory only began in 2020 after he won the Roland Garros Junior singles title, catapulting the Dane into the world rankings and securing him a place in the tennis big leagues.
The feat has been all the more challenging when you consider names like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz being part of his same cohort.
Despite being heralded as one of tennis’s next generation of superstars, Rune has remained focused on the bigger picture made possible by his relentless dedication.
In an interview with Olympics.com, Rune shared how his “tunnel vision” has been key to his success, earning him praise from greats like Novak Djokovic, who lost to Rune at the ATP Masters Paris in 2022 adding to his four titles.
“Without that, you won’t get [to the top]. The most important thing is to believe in yourself.
“I’m still young,” he added. “I have a lot to improve. I think it’s constant work, which I love about tennis: you can never be finished. There’s always something that you can do better. And that excites me a lot.”
Currently ranked as world number 16, his run at this year’s Australian Open has sparked talk of the star reclaiming his career high ranking at number four.
And with a rumoured partner by his side, maybe a little off-court romance could be the edge Rune needs to make it his biggest year yet.
Who Is The Rumoured Girlfriend Of Holger Rune?
Holger Rune appears to be single, despite long-running speculation surrounding his relationship with Caroline Donzella, the Italian-Dutch model and Monaco-based realtor.
Donzella was first linked to the star when she was spotted in the grandstands at Wimbledon in 2023.
When pressed about his fashionable guest at the time, Rune told Danish publication B.T that Donzella was just a friend.
“They’re actually two of my friends from Monaco who I’ve known for a while. They also saw me play at the Monte Carlo Masters, so it’s great that they’re supporting me here too.”
“I do things with them in Monaco that normal friends do,” he continued. “We go out and eat together, relax and use the time to unwind.”

Soon after that, things appeared to have escalated with Instagram stories showing the loved-up pair together in Monaco. Caroline reportedly captioned the post “Love you @holgerrune” leading to speculation that the new romance might be impacting the player’s performance.
The rumours were eventually addressed by Rune’s mother Aneke, who told B.T : “I have seen that many have written that it is because Holger has got a girlfriend.
“There I can say with 100 per cent certainty that he hasn’t lost focus because of her anyway. He clearly still has tennis as his priority.”
Adding a final confirmation – “That’s what puts him in a good mood.”
Following a difficult stretch in late 2023, during which Rune managed just one match win across a three-month period, questions began to swirl around the cause of his sudden dip in form. As speculation mounted, some commentary focused on his personal life, with his then-relationship with Caroline Donzella frequently cited as a possible distraction.
The pairing proved short-lived, with reports suggesting the romance had ended before the close of the year. Despite this, Rune was quick to shut down suggestions that his off-court life had played any role in his struggles on court, firmly rejecting claims that his relationship was responsible for his performance issues.
For now, it appears the tennis star is back on the market.
