Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott are engaged after four years of dating. Jonathan popped the question to Zooey on a family trip to Scotland, with Deschanel’s two children, Elsie, 8, and Charlie, 6, also taking part in the important moment.
Jonathon, who is best known for his role on Property Brothers met New Girl star, Zooey during an episode of Carpool Karaoke.

August 2019
It all began during a 2019 episode of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke, when the Deschanel sisters (Zooey and Bones star, Emily Deschanel) joined the Property Brothers (Jonathan and his twin, Drew) in the car.
According to People, the group of four continued the fun after filming the episode by heading out to a karaoke bar in LA.
“They were all talented and spontaneous and they had a really fun time shooting the show,” a source told People. “They became friends after and then started talking as friends and realized there was more to it.”
In 2020, Jonathan admitted on an episode of Drew and Linda’s podcast At Home, that he had been “flirting so hard” with Zooey during the Carpool Karaoke episode that “the show’s producer had to cut a bunch of it out.”
September 2019
Zooey and Jonathan were spotted on a double date with Jonathan’s twin brother Drew and his wife Linda Phan, when the group attended a live taping of Dancing With the Stars.
A source told Us Magazine that the couple looked “very comfortable together” and at one point, “Jonathan moved his chair closer to Zooey and put his arm around her as he whispered closely in her ear.”
Later, a source revealed that the pair experienced “instant chemistry” when they met and bonded over their mutual interests of “music, film, theatre—and Christmas carols.”
October 2019
The couple confirmed their relationship on Instagram the following month, when they posted a picture from another double date with Drew and Linda. The photo shows Jonathan holding Zooey in his arms.
November 2019
Jonathan posted a sweet picture of the couple on Twitter for Thanksgiving in 2019, with the caption: “I am beyond thankful to be surrounded by such incredibly fun loving people & puppies. You bring joy to my life. I love you.”
January 2020
Jonathan made an Instagram tribute to his girlfriend for her 40th birthday, writing “Happy Birthday to the beautiful human who brought joy & laughter back into my life ❤️🎉.”
The New Girl star quickly commented back, “I’m the luckiest girl 😘❤️.”

The couple proved they were strong enough to survive coronavirus quarantine together, when Zooey posted a picture of their board game set-up to Instagram.

It was Zooey’s turn to post a birthday tribute to Jonathan, in honour of his 42nd birthday, when she wrote, “This amazing person makes me truly happy every single day and fills my life with love and joy. You are one of a kind wonderful. So happy I get to make your birthday cake.”

The couple buy a house together. In a 2022 issue of Drew + Jonathan Reveal, Jonathan spoke about the property for the first time, explaining “When we first brought [Zooey’s] kids by the property, they dubbed it the Park House. And you know what happens when you name something, whether it’s a mangy stray dog or a beautiful home of your dreams? You keep it. The next thing you know, Zooey and I owned the Park House.”

The couple celebrate their first anniversary with a sweet video made by Jonathan of their time together. He captioned the post, “Who would’ve known that exactly one year ago my life would change forever. When I count my blessings, I count you twice.”
