Reese Witherspoon worked alongside fellow Hollywood heavyweight Kerry Washington on a television adaptation of Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. Produced by Witherspoon's media company Hello Sunshine, the series was set to air on US streaming giant Hulu later this year - but amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Witherspoon decided to drop the series early.
What is Little Fires Everywhere about?
The series is expected to follow the storyline and has been given the go-ahead by author Celeste Ng who took to Twitter to tease the project, writing: "I cannot tell y'all details yet but you are going to love this adaptation. The writers are amazing and they're doing such a fantastic job. True to the characters and themes and plot, but with lots of new layers and some tweaks and twists. I cannot WAIT for you to see it."
Closely following the 2017 page-turner, the TV adaptation will introduce viewers to the town of Shaker Heights in Ohio and revolves around the "intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives".
A surprising friendship blossoms between the families' children but a custody battle over a baby threatens to tear not just their newfound bond but the entire town apart. "The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood - and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster," the logline reads.
Who will star in the Little Fires Everywhere adaptation?
Reese Witherspoon will take on the lead role of journalist and head of the Richardson household, Elena Richardson, with Joshua Jackson of Dawson's Creek fame set to play her onscreen husband, Bill Richardson.
