Taylor Swift caused a furore this morning when she announced the impending arrival of her new single “Patient Zero”. Naturally, Swifties have succumbed to her Easter egg trail, piecing together the clues and the meaning behind the new song, however one major discrepancy that caught our eye was Taylor’s new ring.

In the promotional imagery for the single, she noticeably swapped out her $1.5 million old mine-cut engagement ring, which her now-husband Travis Kelce proposed with in August 2025. In its place? An emerald-cut diamond on a silver hued band.

The mysterious rock joins Swift’s newly upgraded ring stack, which includes a dazzling wedding band, suspected to be a partial eternity band, that’s worth over AU$20,000. We got a glimpse of the new addition at Travis Kelce’s first football game of the season, which Swift watched from a VIP suite.

The game happened to be on the same day as the 2026 Emmys, which Taylor addressed in a cameo in a Law & Order: Special Victims Unit spoof shown during the awards ceremony due to fans wondering whether the popstar would attend given her nomination.

So, is this new ring a decoy? Could it be another Easter egg about new music she’s dropping? Honestly, when it comes to the mastermind that is Taylor Swift, anything is possible.

What Is The Approximate Value Of Taylor’s New Engagement Ring?

It’s the million dollar question! And, true to the query, Brad Mucklow, owner and manager of Class A Jewellers suspects the dazzling rock could easily fetch more than $1 million.

“If it is a natural diamond of exceptional quality (as we would expect), a ring like this could retail for more than A$1 million,” he told marie claire Australia.

The retail value is similar to her original engagement ring, which was also widely expected to cost $1 – $1.5 million. However Mucklow explains how the two rings differ:

“It looks quite different from her previous ring: the diamond sits on a much slimmer band, rather than the thicker yellow gold, tapered band with hand engraving. Her infamous ring features a 10-12 carat old mine cut cushion diamond.”

How Many Carats Is Taylor Swift’s New Engagement Ring?

While the details of Swift’s new ring are currently under wraps, Mucklow believes she’s sporting a 10 carat diamond. He explains, “From the image, it appears to be an emerald-cut diamond of more than 10 carats, set on a white gold band with diamond detailing in the band.”

Swift’s original diamond was also estimated to sit anywhere from 10-12 carats.

Who Designed Taylor Swift’s Latest Engagement Ring?

While the finer details of Swift’s latest ring remain a mystery, we do know her original engagement ring was designed by one of the singer’s favourite jewellers, Kindred Lubeck (who even scored an invite to Swift and Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding).

The original ring, crafted by Lubeck’s brand, Artifex Fine, featured an old mine brilliant-cut diamond set in a hand-engraved yellow-gold band.

Known for her one-of-a-kind antique stones and intricate hand-engraving, the jeweller has a distinctly romantic, old-world aesthetic that perfectly aligns with Swift’s style.

Swift has previously spoken about her admiration for Lubeck, telling Heart Breakfast last year: “I just thought her stuff was so cool. When I saw the ring, I was like [gasps], ‘I know who made that!’”

What Is The Symbolism Of An Emerald-Cut Diamond & Its “Patient Zero” Debut?

The emerald-cut diamond maintains a firm foothold in the canon of extravagant celebrity engagement rings, with Grace Kelly, Sofia Richie Grainge, Jennifer Lawrence and Beyoncé all having opted for what is widely considered one of the most elegant diamond shapes.

An emerald-cut diamond is a rectangular stone with bevelled corners and long, linear step-cut facets that creates an elegant, elongated sparkle. The cutting style takes its name from its traditional use for emeralds, which was later adopted for diamonds.

“Emerald cuts have long, step-like facets that give the stone an elegant, almost window-like appearance,” says Mucklow. “That open structure makes clarity especially important, as inclusions can be easier to see. It’s a striking choice for a star who knows how to make a statement!”

So why did she choose to debut the new ring for her upcoming single “Patient Zero”? Netizens have already begun sharing theories, with one X user writing, “The ONLY thing I can think of is that it could be a character and not Taylor herself?”

Another backed up this theory, saying “To me this is a HUGE clue that she’s playing a character!!”

Her new single “Patient Zero” drops this Friday, and it seems only time will tell what the ring switch-up truly means.
