‘Playboy’ Playmates Recreate Their Iconic Magazine Covers Decades Later

Once a playmate, always a playmate

While we have long been believers that women can be sexy at any age, we are surprised to learn that Playboy agrees.

In the spirit of celebrating the women who have made Playboy what it is, the brand invited seven special Playmates from over the years to come back and recreate their iconic covers.

In the process, they reminded us that “beauty is ageless, sex appeal is timeless and exuberance is eternal”

Among those taking part are Hef’s former wife and baby mama Kimberley Conrad Hefner (1989 Playmate of the Year, January 1988 Playmate), Charlotte Kemp (December 1982 Playmate), Cathy St. George (August 1982 Playmate), Monique St. Pierre (PMOY 1979, November 1978 Playmate), Renee Tenison (PMOY 1990, November 1989 Playmate), Candace Collins (December 1979 Playmate), and Lisa Matthews (PMOY 1991, April 1990 Playmate).

Tenison shares what it was like to be the first black Playmate of the Year:

“When I did Playboy, there was a little bit of controversy because I was the first African-American Playmate of the Year and some women were saying I was being objectified.

But I said, ‘Well, if you’re pro-choice, shouldn’t I have the right to choose what I want to do?’ If I want to pose nude, I should be able to pose nude! When the issue came out, the response was 90% positive and maybe 10% didn’t like it.”

Placing the covers side-by-side, it’s pretty amazing to see how little these women have changed. The modern day covers represent the individual beauty in the image, more so than the “Playmate” facade.
