I can’t explain it, but there is something inherently ‘dressy’ about wearing a high heel. I don’t know if it’s because I grew up in an era where going out on the town meant donning our highest, most outrageous pair (and dancing in them all night, mind you), but somehow I always feel like I’m overdressed when I wear a heel casually.
Don’t get me wrong, that has never stopped me. But in an era where sneakers and thongs seem to be the standard, wearing a heel can sometimes feel like I’m doing a little too much for an everyday outfit.

That was, at least, until I started spotting some of my favourite celebs doing it. Case in point: this Hailey Bieber outfit. But she’s not the only one. An influx of casual heels seem to be happening, and it’s everyone from major celebrities to the girls who share my train carriage on the morning commute.
The formula, it seems, is pretty simple: jeans and a nice top, paired with a set of heels in a low heel height — no sky-high stilettos in sight. Somehow, it feels perfectly understated and just the right amount of elevated without looking like you’re trying too hard.
Whether it’s with a chic button-up and a cosy sweater thrown over your shoulders, a going-out top, or an everyday long-sleeve shirt, the casual heel is a trend I will be firmly adopting (and soon).
