A lot of beauty brands claim to be sustainable and clean, but very few go to the length of offsetting their carbon output by planting over a thousand poplar trees on a carbon capture farmlette in rural New Zealand.
But that’s exactly what San Margo founders, husband and wife duo Catalina and Charles Wilkinson, did after struggling to find clean, effective, and sustainable formulas.

San Margo‘s skincare comes in post-consumer recycled glass, while the haircare and wellness bottles are comprised of renewable sugarcane bio-resin. The brand has also managed to create packaging that utilises 71 per cent curbside recyclable components certified by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO). As well as being proud members of ‘1% for the Planet’, donating one percent of sales to environmental causes.
Additionally each San Margo formula meets Europe’s stringent safety standards (which restrict over 1,600 harmful ingredients) alongside San Margo’s own rigorous internal criteria to ensure the cleanest and most effective products possible.
Actually, all the brand’s best-sellers share easily decipherable natural ingredients. They’re dermatologically-certified for sensitive skin, microbiome-friendly, non-comedogenic, and formulated for those key life stages when your body needs a bit of extra support.
By 2050, the trees planted on the San Margo family farm are projected to offset 12,660 tonnes of CO2, which is roughly the equivalent of about 250 million bottles of San Margo’s In-Residencia Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner. The gentle hair care duo uses fermented probiotics, cationic hyaluronic acid, panthenol, niacinamide and natural oils to support environmentally-stressed hair in in need of hydration.
San Margo’s Bakuchiol Super Elixir Facial Oil boasts an apricot, jojoba, argan, rosehip, Spanish grape seed, sweet almond, sunflower and safflower oil base that’s been enriched with bakuchiol, CoQ10, totarol, ceramide NP, squalane, and vitamin E.
And the brand’s Extraordinaria Firming Body Oil combines microbiome-friendly oils like apricot, jojoba, rosehip and argan, with vitamin E and CoQ10 to hydrate and support elasticity through all of the body’s many changes and stages.
