Call off your search for the It Bag of 2026, we have your answer: It’s the little satin bag.
Silk and satin handbags began popping up runways and front rows during the spring/summer 2026 fashion month. The trickle-down effect is now well in play, and the tiny statement bag is destined to be carried by every fashion-conscious woman well into 2027.
The recent rise of the satin bag can perhaps be attributed to The Row’s Cecily – a small, slimline, silk-satin tote, unveiled in September 2025. True to The Row’s mission, the tote contained very little insignia or embellishment, instead elevating (and minimising) a familiar, basic tote design with a luxe fabric makeover. Naturally, it was immediately seized upon by fashion-forward celebs, including Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Zoe Kravitz (who even carried the Cecily to Taylor Swift’s wedding). As a result, the small silk tote instantly soared up the wishlists of anyone who could afford its $1,250 price tag (USD, that is).
In that same fashion season, Prada debuted a new iteration of its famous drawstring pouch bag in a pearly duchess satin. Inspired by Prada’s existing nylon designs, the Prada Wish bag‘s new glossy finish offered an event-friendly version of the traditionally sporty, everyday pouch. During the summer of 2026, the bag – in recycled nylon or satin – could be seen on the arms of every It Girl in the northern hemisphere. With Australia heading into spring party season, we’re due to follow suit.
These styles have now inspired countless imitations, with fashion houses large and small offering their own spin. Many are playing with the season’s other trends of fringe, beads and tassel embellishments.

The satin bag’s biggest virtue is that it carries its weight in styling thanks to its eye-catching sheen. While the rest of your outfit can be comprised of basics (cotton tops, jeans, thongs, even sportswear), a satin bag offers instant elevation and interest.
While satin totes are the everyday solution, the satin drawstring pouch or wristlet bag is undeniably this season’s answer to an event bag. (Just think of how many brides and guests alike will be sporting satin bags this wedding season!)
Meanwhile, while silk-satin is the predominant fabric we’re seeing from designers, all manner of iridescent materials are taking over high street lines. Think: glossy nylons and acetates.
Nylon bags still offer a slight sheen, but may be preferred for their day-to-night friendliness, greater durability and, of course, more affordable price tag. While a satin or silk bag is the treat for special occasions, a nylon bag can be carted around daily. (Depending on the style, nylon shell totes have even become the corporate woman’s stylish answer to a laptop bag.)
