Survivor Star Georgia Jane Ray Reveals She Had An Ectopic Pregnancy While Filming The Show

The contestant was given a 24 hour medical exemption on the show.

Australian Survivor star Georgia Jane Ray has revealed she suffered an ectopic pregnancy while filming Survivor: Brains Vs. Brawn.

The Forensic Psychologist shared the news via an official statement posted by Survivor Australia’s official Instagram account, recounting the reason behind her unexplained 24 hour medical exemption shown during an episode aired this week.

In that same episode, Georgia was eliminated from the ‘brains’ tribe and subsequently went home. She then felt compelled to bravely open up about the experience with an important reminder.

“Where to begin?!” Georgia started.

“I want to take this opportunity to put to bed some of the confusion concerning my health on Survivor. I have had some people question the timing of my illness and also the 24 hour medical exemption. Most importantly, I want to find the courage to share my experience because I believe that telling your story releases you from it, no matter what it is… The good, the bad, and the ugly!”

She continued: “During the evening on Day 18 of Survivor (the night before I was taken to hospital), I suffered an extremely painful rupture to my fallopian tube due to an unknown and unexplained ectopic pregnancy.

“At the time, I had absolutely no idea why I was so unwell, let alone feeling such severe abdominal pain.”

The reality star then thanked her tribe mates who supported her through what she described as the most “agonising night of my life”.

She added how fortunate she was to receive medical treatment in hospital the following day, however the pregnancy was not identified by the doctors at the time.

She returned to the set of Survivor with a belief that her health would improve, but she was quickly eliminated and went home anyway.

Soon after she arrived home, she explained she then suffered another rupture, described as “severe abdominal pain and internal bleeding”.

“The Doctor at Noosa Hospital told me I was in fact six weeks pregnant and that I needed emergency surgery (laparoscopy) to remove the pregnancy and my ruptured fallopian tube, full on right?!”

She added that since her surgery and a “bumpy” road of ill health, she has since made a full recovery, and is grateful for the support of her husband, Dave and her two young kids Oscar and Claudia.

Georgia ended her statement with an aim to raise awareness for other women who have suffered the same as her.

“I also want people to remember that it is more important than ever not to judge others harshly as we are all human and you never know what someone else is going through.”

She concluded: “Hugs, G X.”

Survivor‘s Network, Channel Ten, also shared a statement referencing the wellbeing of both Georgia and all contestants on the show.

“Australian Survivor takes the health and safety of our contestants very seriously. During filming, Georgia became ill and subsequently required hospitalisation. We are pleased that Georgia has recovered now and we thank her, not only for the determined game she played, but also for the courage to share her story.”
