Taking the stage to accept the award, Rami thanked his father who died before he got the chance to see him become a successful star. Throughout the emotional speech, Rami’s humility shone through:

“To Queen, thank you for allowing me to be the tiniest part of your phenomenal extraordinary legacy. I am forever in your debt. […] I may not have been the obvious choice but I guess it worked out. […] To my cast and crew, you are my equals, you are my betters. […] To anyone struggling with theirs and trying to find their voice. We made a movie about a gay man and an immigrant. […] We are longing for stories like this. I am a son of immigrants from Egypt, I am a first-generation American. Part of my story is being written now.”

However, the most touching moment of came when he thanked his girlfriend Lucy Boynton who plays his on-screen love interest Mary Austin in the biopic.

“Lucy Boynton, you’re the heart of this film,” he concluded. “You are beyond immensely talented you have captured my heart. Thank you so much.”
