Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy—four names that became synonymous with the electric and effervescent era of ’90s fashion—reunite for a new docuseries, The Super Models, exploring the iconic era.

Nearly three decades later, the four supermodels’ impact on fashion, beauty and pop culture remains legendary, and while we have Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Kaia Gerber (who happens to be the daughter of one said Super) to obsess over, the modern-day supermodels can credit much of their careers and their celebrity to those who paved the way—or paved the runway.

Apple TV‘s new documentary project, The Super Modelsdirected by Barbara Kopple and produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries, centres on the icons Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista.

In a statement, the streaming service said the documentary series “travels back to the 1980s, when four women from different corners of the world united in New York. Already forces in their own right, the gravitas they achieved by coming together transcended the industry itself. Their prestige was so extraordinary that it enabled the four to supersede the brands they showcased, making the names Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy as prominent as the designers who styled them.”

The show promises a deep dive into the four women who defined the decade, and looks to how they remained on the frontlines of culture through “activism, philanthropy and business prowess.”

“As the fashion industry continues to redefine itself—and women’s roles within it—this is the ultimate story of power and how four women came together to claim it, paving the way for those to follow,” the statement said.

According to Instagram posts shared by each of the Supers, the series will also explore the intimate friendships they formed backstage, on red carpets and exclusive parties. As Turlington writes, “I am looking forward to looking back on this unprecedented time in fashion with these incredible women whom I have grown up with.”

Naomi added she hopes their “journey seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate, and inspire young people around the world.”

The first teaser trailer for the series dropped in July, revealing the series will be available to watch on Apple TV+ from September 20, 2023.
