NEED TO KNOW
- Big Brother Australia has moved its 2026 house from Dreamworld on the Gold Coast to Hemmant in Brisbane, Queensland, marking a new chapter for the Channel 10 reality TV show.
- The new Big Brother house is located at Screen Queensland’s studios and features a swimming pool, sauna, diary room and dedicated spaces for housemates to socialise.
- The move from the Gold Coast follows reported issues with theme park visitors communicating with housemates and wet weather disrupting live broadcasts.
When Big Brother returned to Channel 10, the channel that premiered the show in the early noughties, the decision to return to its original house at Dream World on the Gold Coast was deliberate.
After three reboots, bouncing from network to network over the years, the location signalled Channel 10 would (hopefully) be leaning into the nostalgic love for the show.
After one year back on the Gold Coast, however, Big Brother has decided to move house and is headed for Brisbane in 2026.
The announcement of the move came from Channel Ten’s parent company, Paramount, in August 2026.
“The housemates will soon learn that what happens in Bris-Vegas most certainly does not stay in Bris-Vegas,” said Big Brother.
Where Is The New Big Brother House?
For its 2026 season, Big Brother moved from its original home at Dream World on the Gold Coast to Brisbane, more specifically the suburb of Hemmant.
The new house is within Screen Queensland’s studios, which “have been home to Aussie classics like Boy Swallows Universe” and is said to have up to 80 cameras to capture every dramatic moment.
According to the official press release, it came with some very specific design requirements: “His house must have gossip nooks, a diary room, “mad tuna storage”, and most importantly – unfiltered access, 24 hours a day.”
Per realestate.com, which got a first look inside the property, the new house includes a “garden health spa area featuring a swimming pool and sauna, providing space for housemates to work out, practice yoga or indulge in some “self-care”.
Of course, the diary room, famous for housemates airing grievances, dirty laundry and accepting secret challenges, will also feature.
Why Did The Big Brother House Move To Brisbane?
The return to its very first home on the Gold Coast may have been iconic for the reality show, but it came with its issues.
It’s reported that theme park visitors were able to communicate with housemates, and wet weather frequently caused disruptions to live broadcasts.
The latter was hinted at in Paramount’s official statement, writing: “Speaking of roofs… Big Brother might even add an awning or two.”
