Yet for others we simply can’t comprehend how they got together, no matter how hard we try. Below, some of Hollywood’s most unexpected duos and how they got together.
1/ Grimes and Elon Musk
The Met Gala has become notorious for new celebrity romances to go official, and this year was no different. SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk and his Indie singer girlfriend Grimes made their debut as a couple at this year’s annual Met Gala and we were stunned. Sources have allegedly told Page Six that the duo first met online a month ago after Musk was researching a joke about artificial intelligence involving a “Rococo Basilisk” that he wanted to tweet. Apparently Grimes had already beaten him to it. As you do.
2/ Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall
There may be 25 years between them but that certainly didn’t stop Rupert Murdoch from getting down on one knee and proposing to former supermodel, Jerry Hall. After four months of dating, the couple revealed their impending nuptials in the announcement section of The Times newspaper.
3/ Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole
On the surface these two seem like an odd pairing yet since they first teased their relationship on Instagram in 2015, the world has become obsessed with Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne. The former One Direction singer met the X Factor judge in 2008, when Liam was still a teen. Fast forward a decade and they are happily in love and new parents to a son named Bear, who was born in March 2017.
4/ Julian Assange and Pamela Anderson
These two might just be the oddest celebrity couple ever. The Wikileaks mastermind and the blonde bombshell have appeared to hit it off, with Anderson making regular visits to the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where Assange has resided since 2012. The pair were introduced by activist fashion designer Vivienne Westwood who even dedicated her S/S 2017 collection to Assange. In 2017 the former Baywatch star gushed about Assange in a blog post, stating, “My relationship with Julian – it’s no secret. He is one of my favourite people and he might be the most famous, most politicised refugee of our time.”
5/ Benji Madden and Cameron Diaz
The world was shocked when it was announced that Cameron Diaz would be marrying her rocker boyfriend Benji Madden of only eight months. Although the couple may seem surprising at first, these two have few things in common. They both share a mutual friend who decided to play cupid – Nicole Richie. According to reports, Richie thought that Diaz and Madden would click and decided to set them up.
6/Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy
Mary-Kate Olsen is of the most famous child stars of all time. Remember her and her twin sister Ashley from Full House? According to the NY Post, Olsen and Sarkozy, (who is the younger brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy) — separated in age by 16 years — began dating in June 2012. The mismatched pair got engaged in February 2014.
7/ Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani
We were all thrilled for Gwen Stefani when she revealed she had found love again after her heartbreak with Gavin Rossdale. But what we didn’t expect was for it to be with country singer Blake Shelton, who was also newly divorced from Miranda Lambert at the time.
