Zoë Kravitz Is Set To Star In A TV Series Adaptation Of ‘High Fidelity’

Add this to your top five must-watch TV shows

If you haven’t read British author Nick Hornby’s culture-defining novel High Fidelity, add it to your reading list immediately because it’s set to become a TV series starring Big Little Lies actress Zoë Kravitz.

The book is one of those iconic novels that represents the zeitgeist of the mid 1990s so perfectly, that reading it now provides the ideal dose of nostalgia for those who were alive in that decade or, a snapshot of what life was really like for those who weren’t born yet.

The story revolves around London record shop owner Rob who is obsessed with pop culture, top five lists, music and has just been dumped by his girlfriend Laura. To understand why his relationship with Laura failed and work out what he needs to do to win her back, Rob makes a list of his top five most memorable breakups and seeks out the exes on his list, hoping for some answers.

Aside from the romantic angle, the story is a comedy and music lovers dream with much of the action taking place at the record store where Rob and his fellow music snob employees, Dick and Barry, spend their time discussing, debating and sledging each other over music and each other’s life choices.

The best-selling book was made into a film in 2000 starring John Cusack as Rob and Jack Black as record store employee Barry and quickly became a cult hit not only because of the killer soundtrack – the music element of the story is so strong it’s basically a main character – but because it’s one of the best rom-coms out there.

High Fidelity was also turned into a musical, hitting Broadway back in 2006.

And now, the book’s next iteration is a TV series. Variety reports Disney has put in a 10-episode order for a TV adaptation of the novel for its forthcoming streaming service.

Big Little Lies actress Zoë Kravitz has been cast in the lead role, with the story reimagined from “the female perspective” Variety reports.

In an ‘only in Hollywood’ twist Kravitz’s mum, actress Lisa Bonet, played a musician, Marie De Salle, in the 2000 High Fidelity movie.

According to Variety, Disney’s streaming service is slated to launch in the second half of 2019, however there are no details as yet on a possible air date for the High Fidelity TV series. Watch this space.
