Angelina Jolie is here to make you look bad: not only is the mother-of-six a committed human rights activist (in addition to her acting and directing), she’s also, as it turns out, a fully licensed pilot.
The world gets an impressive reminder of Jolie’s flying capabilities in the new David Attenborough doco The Queen’s Green Planet. Footage shows Jolie co-piloting a light plane over the Namibian desert (Jolie has recently partnered with the Namibian government to create a nursery that will replace dying trees in the area).
Jolie obtained her private pilot license in 2004, and explained to Vanity Fair in 2010 that it was part of a birthday present for her son Maddox.
“When Maddox was one and a half, we used to go to the airfield, have lunch and watch the planes,” she said. “And it dawned on me: I could fly. So I promised him I would fly by his second birthday.”
Sigh.
