A new documentary from the BBC, titled Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, is bringing multiple sexual misconduct and rape allegations against the actor and musician to the forefront of the public sphere.
Leto has vehemently denied allegations made by four women in the film, spanning sexual assault, threatened sexual assault, sexualised grooming and statutory rape. The latter is part of a claim from a woman who says she had underage sex with the 30 Seconds To Mars frontman when she was 17 years of age, which in California, where the act allegedly took place, is considered statutory rape.
Another woman featured in the documentary claims she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom also at the age of 17. A third alleges that at 19, Leto threatened to assault her sexually.
Then, there are the allegations of grooming – one woman alleging Leto repeatedly made explicit phone calls to her when she was just 16, on one occasion suggesting they should have sex.
A further four women also alleged they received similar phone calls at a young age, some claiming during the interactions that the actor would ask things such as “Are you a virgin? Do you have any kinks?”
According to the documentary, all 10 women allege these encounters took place between 2002 and 2016 when the now 54-year-old was in his 30s and 40s.
This isn’t the first time Leto has faced allegations of this nature. In 2005, the New York Post reported that Leto had been pursuing teenage girls at a New York hotel. Then in June 2025, Air Mail published a more extensive exposé, in which nine women accused the actor of sexual misconduct, several alleging they were underage at the time.
The report gained momentum after DJ Allie Teilz resurfaced a 2012 social media post claiming Leto had tried to force himself on her backstage when she was 17. Other women told Air Mail that Leto had asked a 16-year-old sexual questions, walked out nude in front of a 17-year-old, and exposed himself to an 18-year-old. At the time, a representative for Leto denied the allegations in full, calling them “demonstrably false.”
