Noah Wyle has been crowned the Sexiest Man Alive for 2026, and depending on what year you were born, you either enthusiastically agree or have no idea who the man is.

The 55-year-old American actor has an extensive resume spanning television and film, starting with an uncredited debut as ‘young man’ in the 1984 film Lust In The Dust. Since then, Wyle has racked up 53 acting credits, including his most iconic role as John Carter in ER, which made him a household name and bona fide noughties heartthrob.

It’s his most recent role in the HBO medical drama (the man makes a great doctor), The Pitt as Dr Michael Robinavitch, that’s thrust Wyle back into the spotlight over the past two years and earned the actor countless accolades, including two Emmy Awards and a Critics Choice.

On his appointment to the prestigious title of Sexiest Man Alive 2026, Wyle told People: “I hope it’s just wine and roses, milk and honey from here on out. [Laughs] No, I don’t, but I am going to take a lot of ribbing from friends and family for sure.”

So, if you’re in the latter camp of being a little too young to recall Wyle’s ER era or you’re yet to become a fan of The Pitt (it’s inevitable, trust me), here’s everything you want to know about Noah Wyle.

Who Did Noah Wyle Play In ER?

Noah Wyle’s knack for playing a doctor began with his iconic role as Dr John Carter in the long-running medical drama ER. The actor joined the NBC series in 1994, appearing as a medical student on his first day working in the emergency room at Chicago’s fictional County General Hospital.

The nervous, inexperienced student swiftly developed into a skilled physician and Wyle, alongside co-star George Clooney, became one of the show’s biggest names.

Wyle spent a whopping 11 seasons starring in the series as a cast regular before returning for a few guest appearances in the show, with his final stint on the show falling in 2009. His time as Dr Carter won Wyle five consecutive Emmy nominations.

Noah Wyle On The Pitt

If you’ve somehow managed to avoid hearing about HBO hit The Pitt, I can only assume you live without access to the internet. The award-winning series premiered in 2025 to critical acclaim and follows the doctors and medical staff working in a Pittsburgh emergency department.

The real hook, however, is that each episode represents an hour in a single 15-hour shift. That’s right, an entire season covers less than a full day in time. It’s emotionally intense and has proven very effective at having the audience crush on a fictional doctor – Wyle included.

Noah Wyle plays Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in The Pitt, the experienced attending physician at the centre of the HBO medical drama. It’s a role that’s landed Wyle multiple awards, and rightly so.
