We were all left with some whiplash after Timm Hanly and Brittany Hockley’s brisk departure from Bachelor in Paradise in last night’s episode, and now Brittany has come out explaining why the two aren’t together anymore.
In the span of about sixty seconds, viewers saw Timm, who had gotten into a rowe with fellow contestant Matt Whyatt the previous evening, pace around his hut before coming to the conclusion that he needed to leave the island.
Rushing to find Brittany – who took the decision in stride and agreed to go with him – the two then walked hand-in-hand off into the jungle and just like that, they were gone.
Timm admitted that he had been struggling on the island and sung his praises about Brittany’s empathetic (and extremely chilled out) response to his request that she leave Fiji with him, particularly that she didn’t even need to question him.
So it seemed that the couple walked off into the sunset, putting the drama of Paradise behind them, to start fresh in the outside world.
But with pictures surfacing recently of Timm getting close to his ex-girlfriend, it was already confirmed that the couple didn’t go the distance.
Now, after an interview with 10play, Brittany has opened up about what exactly went down between the two.
“I didn’t really question leaving with him,” she said, “I could see Timm really starting to struggle in that environment. He was going downhill rapidly and it was really doing his head in.
He was starting to become disappointed in his own behaviour which is really bad, but the fact that he could recognise that was a step in the right direction”.
The decision to leave with him wasn’t exactly because she knew that Timm was the love of her life, claiming she left “Not because I thought he was the be-all and end-all, but I had a connection with him at the start and after a week or two I thought, if he left, I wouldn’t start again. It was going to be him or no one.”
But once the pair were back in the outside world, things quickly took a turn.
“He wanted to start something with me on the outside, [he said] that I was the best thing to happen to him, all this stuff. I left and he became a different person,” she revealed.
“The second he got outside… he was not the person I had just spent the last month with… he was just a different person and I was just so disappointed, so exasperated by the whole thing”.
She then claims that after continually reaching out to check in on how he was doing, because she’s “big on mental health”, Timm simply halted all contact. “I just never heard from him again. He ghosted me. Blocked me on everything. I just thought this speaks volumes, I’m still trying to look out for you and you can’t even give me the time of day”, she said.
While we weren’t sure they were going to last forever, their demise takes us by surprise as they left the show on a strong note. Timm has yet to respond to the accusations.
