The most googled diet of 2013 and for good reason—it's the diet behind some of Hollywood's most enviable bodies. Jessica Biel credits the new "caveman" diet trend for her figure, saying "eating Paleo just leans you down and slims you up and takes that little layer of fat and water-weight right off your body."
So what's on the menu? Paleo eaters subscribe to a strict diet that eliminates all grains, dairy and legumes. "I do a lot of cooking at home using fresh fish or lean meat like chicken and vegetables," says Biel.
22 Days Vegan
Beyoncè Knowles and Jay Z's 22 day vegan challenge caused quite the media flurry—thanks to the superstar singer's Instagram posts throughout—and the results spoke for themselves when the trimmed-down duo showed off their svelte frames at the Grammy Awards.
The program is part of Marco Borges' 22 Days Nutrition challenge, which is available on the company's website. "She is all about health and wellness," her personal trainer shared. "She just wants to feel good." The singer has since re-incorporated some animal products back into her diet, with Borges sharing that she's "sticking to a mostly plant-based diet with some fish here and there."
Clean and Lean
Supermodel Lara Stone turned to personal trainer and nutritionist James Duigan when she wanted to get in shape after the birth of her first son in May. The results were so successful that the Dutch stunner even penned a foreword for his latest book.
The Australian trainer—who is also the man behind the bodies of Elle Macpherson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley— recommends fresh, unprocessed foods and is essentially a low-carbohydrate diet. The diet kicks off with a 14-day kick-start consisting of a protein-heavy meat, eggs and vegetables. After two weeks, fruits and minimal amounts of dairy are incorporated back into the diet.
Wondering how Kim Kardashian shed her post-baby weight so quickly? Calling it the "greatest challenge" of her life, Kim lost around 25 kilos in 11 months leading up to her wedding. Featuring a diet that mainly consists of protein rich foods high in healthy fats like avocado and nuts, as well as eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables, and cheese, while eliminating the intake of carbs.
It is also advised for dieters to stop counting calories—instead ensuring you consume three regular-sized meals and two snacks every day.
Kardashian also enlisted the help of celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson to keep her exercise in check and reportedly had a chef accompany her on tour with Kanye West in order to keep her meals carb-free.
Ex-Spice Girl, fashion designer and mother of four Victoria Beckham cites the Alkaline diet as her method of maintaining her incredibly svelte figure. The diet tries to keep the body's pH level between 7.35 and 7.45 by ultimately aiming the dieter to eat 80% alkaline (fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes—fennel, broccoli, grapefruit and kale are considered the most alkaline) and 20% acidic (wheat and dairy products, coffee, sugar, meat, fish and alcohol) foods.
Reportedly, Beckham's daily diet includes grilled fish, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, yellow fin tuna, sushi salad, and blueberry smoothies, which effectively controls ageing due to their high omega 3 content. Those who keep an alkaline diet boast increased energy levels, improved memory, as well as the prevention of cancer and heart disease.
Beckham is clearly a fan, tweeting "love this healthy eating cook book!", personally supporting 'Honestly Healthy', written by Sienna Miller's stepsister Natasha Corrett.
The Ancient Grains Diet
To keep her energy levels up, Angelina Jolie makes sure she regularly snacks on and adds ancient grains such as quinoa, chia seeds, millet, spelt and buckwheat to her diet.
The humanitarian and film star claims the diet provides her with the nutrients she can't find anywhere else, plus boasts glowing, radiant skin and shining, healthier hair to prove it.
Vegan meal delivery service
When in New York, Lily Aldridge subscribes to an organic, gluten-free and vegan meal delivery service to keep her diet in check.
Eat Fit Food provides a similar service in Australia—choose from a 5-day cleanse, a 10-day detox or a 30-day overall to recreate this Victoria's Secret Angel's diet.
The Duchess of Cambridge
Created by French doctor Pierre Dukan, the Duchess of Cambridge and her mother reportedly went on this diet in order to slim down before the royal wedding. Credited by Dukan, he says that the diet is the reason why French women are able to stay thin without avoiding rich goods or going to the gym. The diet is split into three phases that get less strict each week.
The first phase (attack) limits your intake to just foods high in protein for a period of 2-7 days depending on the desired weight loss, before alternating between protein-heavy days and vegetables in phase two (cruise), before entering the consolidation phase where you can reintroduce foods like bread, fruit and even cheese.
If you need any more encouragement to try this diet out, Gisele Bündchen and Jennifer Lopez are fans too.
5 Factor Diet
With one of the most enviable figures in Hollywood, Megan Fox looks to the 5 Factor Diet, developed by celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak.
A five-week plan, the diet involves eating five meals a day made with five ingredients per meal that must include protein, healthy fats, healthy carbs, fibre and a sugar-free drink. One 'cheat day' is allowed wher dieters can eat what they like.
"Megan and Brian [her now ex-husband] eat really well. They both cook and love using their blender," shared Pasternak, "they love my smoothie recipes! Megan's favuorite is the red smoothie, which is whatever berries are in season, Chai tea, a scoop of protein powder and little bit of almond milk."
