If A Court of Thorns and Roses or Fourth Wing makes your heart race, chances are you’ve found yourself on the corner of TikTok where romantasy reigns supreme.
And, really, can you blame us? Brooding, devastatingly handsome, fiercely loyal, emotionally intelligent men who would burn kingdoms for the woman they love… sorry, where were we? Right. The appeal is obvious.
What started as a niche literary genre has become a full-blown cultural phenomenon, with romantasy dominating bestseller lists, TikTok feeds and group chats alike. But it isn’t stopping at our bookshelves.
The fantasy obsession has officially made its way into the bedroom.
According to new data from Lovehoney, global searches for fantasy-inspired sex toys have surged by more than 700 per cent, while sales of fantasy toys have climbed 244 per cent year-on-year.
So it seems readers aren’t just fantasising about dragons, fae and morally grey love interests anymore—they’re looking for ways to bring a little of that magic into real life.
Why Is Romantasy So Popular?
According to sexologist Christine Rafe, the appeal of romantasy runs much deeper than the occasional spicy scene.
“Fantasy romance taps into anticipation and longing as intense aphrodisiacs and desire-builders. This is something that is often missing from the social discourse about desire and arousal and assumes that we should all ‘spontaneously’ want sex,” she explains.
“The reality for many folk, women and men, arousal begins long before anything physical happens. It’s built through anticipation, emotional tension, unpredictability, and sometimes a feeling of being deeply seen, understood, and wanted.”
Rather than jumping straight into intimacy, romantasy gives readers time to become emotionally invested, allowing desire to build gradually. Rafe also notes that fantasy offers a safe space to explore ideas that might feel intimidating or impossible in everyday life.
“Fantasy also gives readers permission to explore impulses in a world that’s removed from everyday life,” she says. “People can engage with themes of power, surrender, taboo and even dangerous in a way that feels safe.”
How BookTok Changed The Conversation Around Pleasure
It’s no coincidence that the rise of fantasy-inspired sex toys has happened alongside BookTok’s obsession with romantasy.
Rafe believes the online reading community has played an important role in making conversations around sexuality feel far more approachable.
“BookTok has been responsible for a huge resurgence of fantasy erotica and has definitely helped normalise conversations about sexuality and pleasure,” she says.
Rather than simply discussing the books’ steamier moments, readers are also talking openly about consent, emotional intimacy and healthy relationships.
“These conversations help women reframe pleasure as something that’s ‘normal’ and worthy of conversation rather than something to be hidden or shamed,” Rafe explains. “While fantasy isn’t a blueprint for real-life relationships, it can give people the language and confidence to reflect on what they want and need sexually and intimately.”

From Fantasy Worlds To Fantasy Toys
So what does bringing a little fantasy into the bedroom actually look like? Well, if you image your tried-and-true sexual wellness products, but with a little hint of fantasy.
Inspired by the dragons, fae, tentacled sea creatures and other fantastical beings that have taken over our bookshelves (and Kindles), this emerging category of sex toys is anything but ordinary.
Lovehoney tell us that leading the charge is the Fantasy Dildo Vibrator, followed closely by the Fire Dragon Dildo and the Unicorn Silicone Dildo. It seems dragons aren’t just dominating our reading lists—they’re making quite the impression in our bedside drawers, too.
Rafe believes their popularity reflects a broader cultural shift around female pleasure. “Our brain is our biggest sex organ, so desire and arousal is shaped by thoughts, environments and emotional context as well as physical sensation,” she says.
“In my view, the popularity of fantasy-themed pleasure products shows that all folks are becoming more comfortable embracing pleasure and letting themselves lean into their desires. Rather than simply buying a product, many are embracing playfulness and curiosity as part of their sexual wellbeing.”
Rather than being purely novelty items, these products tap into the imagination that fantasy romance has already encouraged readers to embrace. They’re another way people are exploring desire with curiosity rather than shame—something Rafe says is becoming increasingly common as conversations around sexual wellbeing continue to evolve.
Whether you’re curious about vibrators, insertable toys or simply exploring a more imaginative side of sexual wellness, fantasy-inspired designs offer a playful way to embrace desire, curiosity and pleasure.
Below, we’ve rounded up some of the most popular fantasy sex toys fuelled by the romantasy boom.
