Calling all lovers of iconic rom-com Something’s Gotta Give, your time has come because TikTok has declared ‘coastal grandma chic’ the trend of the moment.

Inspired by Diane Keaton’s wardrobe playing Erica Barry in the 2003 Nancy Meyer’s film, the cosy coastal aesthetic is awash with chunky knits, loose-fitting linens and bucket hats in tones of creams, beiges and the occasional baby blue.

The hashtag #CoastalGrandmother has amassed 19.6 million views on the platform so far, a number that’s only set to grow as the romantic Hamptons-esque style takes hold.

We need little convincing to live out our fantasy of a life of luxury spent by the seaside through our outfits. And, we’re not the only ones, with Anne Hathaway and Selena Gomez jumping on the trend.

Sporting a button down shirt, beige trousers and straw hat, Anne shared her delight over the growing trend, captioning her Instagram post: “I have been ready for #coastalgrandmother chic since before TikTok was born. May this moment never end.”

Meanwhile, Selena shared a more subtle snap wrapped in a knit cardigan—a coastal grandmother wardrobe staple—basking in the orange glow of golden hour.

If like us, you’re wanting to wear the trend for yourself, we’ve rounded up the pieces we’re shopping to nail the cosy chic look ourselves.
