Here at marie claire, we’re forever inspired by the world’s future-shapers and forward-thinkers. But this year, when it came to fashion at least, we looked back to the past.
And it seems we weren’t alone. According to Google, 2018’s most-searched trend was “1980s fashion”, perhaps an offshoot of the statement fluoros, shoulder pads and scrunchies that stormed the international runways.

Next came “grunge style” and “1990s fashion”, seen via Cher Horowitz-approved plaid, and the resurgence of old-school sportswear and logo mania.

At number four was “2000s fashion”, not surprising given our renewed taste for cargo pants.
And rounding out the top five of Google fashion searches – Meghan Markle, who had a stellar sartorial year, stunning in her Givenchy wedding gown and barely putting a (nude-heeled) foot wrong on her Australiasian tour. Sister-in-law Kate Middleton slipped into the top 10 at number nine.
