Anne Hathaway is making her way back onto our screens, starring in A24’s upcoming film, Mother Mary

The movie, which also stars Michaela Coel, reportedly follows the story of a fictional pop star, played by Hathaway, who falls in love with Coel’s character, a fashion designer.

It’s being produced by A24, the production company that brought us the comedic thriller Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, as well as Euphoria, Uncut Gems, and recent Oscar winner, Everything Everywhere All At Once

David Loewry, who is slated to direct the film, is also the director behind The Green Knight and A Ghost Story, which were both backed by A24. Loewry also recently wrote and directed the Disney+ film, Peter Pan and Wendy, starring Jude Law, which is set to be released in April.

Mother Mary will feature original music by Jack Antoff and Charlie XCX, with an original score composed by Daniel Hart. Antoff has written for superstars including Taylor Swift, Zayn, Lorde, Lana Del Ray, and Olivia Rodrigo, while Charlie XCX wrote the song Hot Girl for Bodies Bodies Bodies

2023 has already been a busy year for both the film’s leading ladies.

Hathaway’s most recent film, Eileen, debuted at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. She also has another movie, Mother’s Instinct, which co-stars Jessica Chastain, primed for release in 2023, as well as an Amazon film, The Idea of You

Coel, on the other hand, became a global star with the hit series, I May Destroy You, for which she was the first black woman to score an Emmy for Outstanding Writing. Since then, she has gone on to star in the Oscar-nominated blockbuster, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

While we don’t yet have a release for Mother Mary, according to Deadline, filming is set to take place this year in Germany.
