Keira Knightley Wore Chanel Every Day During Lockdown And Sure, We Can Relate

There's actually a very sweet reason behind it.

In totally relatable news, Keira Knightley has revealed that she wore Chanel every single day during lockdown. Yes, as the rest of the world was rocking nothing but tie-dye sweatpants and fluffy slippers, the actress was dressed head-to-toe in designer pieces.

While it might sound crazy, there’s actually a very sweet reason behind her dressing choices, and it’s got to do with her two daughters, who she shares with husband James Righton.

Edie (6) and Delilah (soon to be 2), are both very young to be dealing with the stresses and strife of a global pandemic. Keira believed it was important to create some fun, happy memories during this time  starting with their outfit choices. Speaking candidly in an interview with Harper’s BAZAAR U.K, Keira explained the meaning behind their ritual.

“We have a trampoline in our garden, and we decided we were only allowed to wear dresses on it. I put on red lipstick every day and every bit of Chanel that I have in my cupboard, and my daughter Edie had Chanel ribbons plaited into her hair and fairy wings,” she told the publication.

“I thought, ‘What is the point of these lovely things sitting in the wardrobe, when it feels quite apocalyptic and scary outside?’ It felt so important to be really happy for the kids,” she added.

Don’t worry, James didn’t miss out on the fun, either. He was held to the same standards as everyone else before entering the trampoline, selecting something from his “array of peacock-colored Gucci suits.”

The actress went on to say that it was a “weird time” as they waited out the COVID pandemic.

“When you’re in a scenario like this, and you know there’s nothing you can do but stay at home, you realize the utter frivolousness of your existence – and the utter awe for nurses.”

Despite their happier times spent in designer gowns, it wasn’t all fun and games for the Pride and Prejudice actress and her family. She recalls a strange time when her husband grew obsessed with the cleanliness of vegetables, and how it nearly drove them all mad.

“It got to an extreme when I found these weird, brown apples and my husband said he’d boiled them, because people might have touched them,” she shared. “I said, ‘Right, but now we can’t eat them!’ … That was a really weird time, us dressed in really bright clothes, boiling apples!” she told the publication

And then there was the time Righton, 37, decided that the family should eat only vegetables “sourced from regenerative farms” during the UK’s second lockdown, leading to some serious tension with his spouse.

“I’m not a big root-veg fan, and in these regenerative boxes we were getting — this is so middle-class, I can’t bear it — there were four celeriac. And I hate celeriac! I didn’t realize I could feel so strongly about a vegetable…”

When Righton suggested they eat celeriac for dinner instead of ordering takeout, the actress said she became enraged and hurled the veggie on the kitchen floor.

“It made quite a thunk,” she recalled.

It’s nice to know that not even when you’re decked out in designer clothes, nobody’s quarantine experience has been super glamorous. Thanks for staying humble and ever-so-honest, Keira.
