Their parent company, Inditex fashion group, has announced overnight that it will make its factories and logistics teams available to the Spanish government to donate much-needed masks for patients and medical workers alike.

In a statement from one of the company’s representatives, Inditex explains that it “will make a delivery at least once a week of materials we purchase directly,” already having “donated 10,000 protective face masks and by the end of this week expects to be in a position to ship another 300,000 surgical masks.”

The company recognised that masks are among the most urgently needed supplies, as per recommendations by the Spanish health authorities, along with gloves, protective glasses, caps, shoe covers and face shields.

Although the production and distribution of the masks are well underway, the representative went on to explain that Inditex is still in the process of sourcing appropriate, medical-grade fabric to manufacture hospital gowns. The company is also “investigating the possibility of switching some of our textile-manufacturing capacity over to the production of health materials, involving Inditex’s manufacturing experts to that end.”

Spain follows Italy as one of the most heavily impacted European countries by coronavirus. As reported by Independent, Inditex has closed 3,785 Zara stores globally after the global pandemic sent sales plummeting in the first two weeks of March. Since then, the group has also temporarily shut all of its stores in Spain following a country-wide, government-enforced lockdown on Saturday.
