The Sarah J. Maas fandom has been collectively holding its breath for an ACOTAR 6 & 7 announcement ahead of the next book’s already confirmed release in October, 2026.
If we’d been forced to wait, breath-baited, for much longer, collapse and desperation would have been imminent.
Thankful, Maas finally put us out of our misery by revealing the cover art, titles and blurbs for books six and seven overnight.
Taking to Instagram, the author confirmed book 6 as A Court Of Splintered Harmony and book seven as A Court Of Forgotten Melody.
Naturally, booktok been spiralling since and a rabbithole of theories awaits anyone willing to lose a few hours in a scroll. If it’s all a little overwhelming, find your two-minute explainer below.
What Are ACOTAR 6 & 7 About?
Along with the announcement of both A Court Of Splintered Harmony and A Court Of Forgotten Melody, came blurbs for each novel. According to the book covers, the stories are a tale of “the Valkyrie cycle”, while the blurbs suggest the story will pick up close to where it left off: with a new threat looming over Prythian in Kochei the Deathless.
The Valkyrie are an ancient order of female warriors previously believed to be wiped out in the Hybern war. However, in A Court Of Silver Flames, we saw Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie revive the sect by completing the Blood Rite.

What Is A Court Of Splintered Harmony About?
Based on the blurb for book 6, we can safely assume much of the story will centre on a new threat: Kochei. Will it be an origin story that jumps between present day or will it pick up where we left off in book five?
The official synopsis reads: “Deep in the heart of the continent, Koschei the Deathless is stirring. Though he’s been bound to a mountain lake for millennia, the insidious threat of his return now spreads across the Fae territories, attracting powerful allies hell-bent on reclaiming what was once theirs: the human lands.
“The Night Court will not stand idly by while innocents are attacked. But with Prythian still piecing itself together in the wake of the devastating Hybern War, the task of uniting is proving more difficult by the day.”
The mention of our beloved night court seems to suggest we’ll start our journey in the same timeline we closed out the last book. Where it goes from there, however, is anyone’s guess.

What Is A Court Of Forgotten Melody About?
If there’s one thing Maas was clear about in her Call Her Daddy interview, it was that books six, seven and eight are one story split across three novels.
“It’s basically going to be three physical volumes, but it’s one thing all together. It’s meant to be read in one long story, but it’s not a trilogy,” she explained.
So, we expect ACOTAR 7, A Court Of Forgotten Melody, to pick up wherever book six has left us. Knowing Maas, probably a state of despair and chaos.
The official blurb reads: “Prythian might never be the same again. Traditional alliances are crumbling, and no amount of diplomacy seems sufficient to repair them. With the continued threat of Koschei the Deathless on the horizon, a united front is crucial – and farther out of reach than it has ever been before.
“Bonds will be tested. Power will shift. And old enemies will emerge from nightmares of the past.”
Will ACOTAR 6 & 7 Cross Over With Throne Of Glass Or Crescent City?
Maas all but confirmed a multiverse crossover with her other series, Throne Of Glass or Crescent City – perhaps both.
When asked during her Call Her Daddy interview if readers will need to have read all her other series before the next ACOTAR release, she simply said: “You’ve had long enough.”
The implication was that the five-year wait between books was enough to cover your knowledge base so any potential crossover doesn’t spoil the other series for readers.
Theories on how the worlds will collide span from the cover art potentially portraying a Stygian spider (from TOG) to the Dusk Court being a place that exists across series, specifically the island that spoke to Bryce in A House Of Flame Of Shadow.
