Call us biased but Sarah J. Maas’ guest appearance on Call Her Daddy may be one of the most highly-anticipated episodes of the podcast, ever.
After five long years, fans’ patience over the long-awaited A Court Of Thorns And Roses aka ACOTAR book six, has worn famously thin.
Fans of Sarah J. Maas’ best-selling “romantasy” novels have been waiting for an announcement on the next book since its predecessor, A Court of Silver Flames, was released in 2021.
Finally, in July of 2025, Maas gave her loyal audience a glimmer of hope via Instagram, revealing the first draft of ACOTAR 6 was complete.
The author shared a video dramatically shutting a notebook with ‘ACOTAR 6’ and a symbol fans can’t seem to agree over, penned on the front. She’s then seen shutting her laptop and popping a bottle of champagne in celebration.
“First drafts DONE.” Maas captioned the video.
The post sent fans into a speculative spiral: is it an arrow or the number 8 scrawled on her notebook? Are we getting books six to eight all at once?

Sarah J Maas Announces ACOTAR Books 6, 7 & 8
IT’S HAPPENING. Everyone stay calm.
In her Call Her Daddy interview, Maas confirmed that not only are we getting ACOTAR book six, but two more novels are set to follow. So yes, we are getting books six to eight.
However, Maas clarified that it is ‘one story’ split into four parts across three books. Confused? That’s okay.
“The story that was finally ready to come out of me was big — really, really, really big,” she explained. “By the time I got to the end of part one, it was like 400 pages long.”
She went on to clarify that ACOTAR book six will be part one, book seven will be parts two and three, and part four will make up book eight.
“Part one was this huge, huge thing and then I realised it was going to be a book told in four parts. Then I wrote part two and part three and those were really f***ing long.”
“Part four has yet to be written because right now I’m trying to just get part one [out]… It’s basically going to be three physical volumes, but it’s one thing all together. It’s meant to be read in one long story, but it’s not a trilogy.”
Maas has confirmed that ACOTAR book six and seven will be released in close succession, starting late this year.
Book six “is coming out on October 27th and on January 12th the next ACOTAR book [book seven] will be coming out. There will be two books within a very short span.”
“I could not live with the idea of publishing part one and being like, ‘You’ve gotta wait like a year’,” she said.
