Australians are getting a taste of Super Bowl frenzy today as the NFL hosts a match between the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. What’s more exciting, to me at least, is the league also bringing its half-time show tradition and the Jonas Brothers with it.
The American teams will face off at Melbourne’s MCG stadium, with the game kicking off at 10:35 AM AEST today, Friday, September 11, 2026.
Why are they down under? We hear you ask. As though the sport wasn’t big enough, today’s match in Melbourne is part of a global expansion of the sport – one that appears to be working.
Reports on the ground suggest the energy outside the stadium is already electric as fans wait for the game to start.
The event hasn’t been without its mishaps, however, with Joe Jonas’ half-time appearance thrown into disarray when the singer missed a connecting flight to Australia from Dubai.
Did Joe Jonas Appear At The NFL Half-Time Show In Melbourne?
Yes, Joe did make it in time for the show. The singer was scheduled to appear in Melbourne for the NFL Kick Off event on Thursday, September 10, but couldn’t make it due to a flight delay in London, which saw the singer miss his subsequent flight out of the United Arab Emirates.
Instead, Joe appeared in a video to fans projected on the big screens at the event, explaining the flight chaos and apologising to fans.
It does appear he landed in Australia around 11 pm AEST time yesterday, sharing a photo of the billboard for the event to his Instagram Stories, which saw fans immediately rejoice that he had made it.
How To Watch The Jonas Brothers Half-Time Show?
If you’re just here to watch the Jonas Brothers (hi, it’s me) Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas will perform during the break, marking the trio’s first NFL halftime performance.
The trio took to the stage for the half-time show around midday AEST time to deliver a performance longtime fans would delight in. The JoBros opened their set with their iconic hit ‘Burnin’ Up’ before transitioning into one of their newer singles, ‘Sucker’, the song that catapulted the band back into the spotlight after years of hiatus.
Of course, a nod to Australian culture was respectfully given, with a quick rendition of John Farnham’s cult classic, ‘You’re The Voice’. The trio also performed their new single, ‘Listen When Sad’ for the first time on live TV before closing out the set with what can only be hailed as a retro banger, ‘Year 3000’.
