Upcoming film, Mother Mary, sounds too good to be true. From the casting to the soundtrack and even the production company, every aspect of the new movie reads like the internet’s ultimate fantasy project.
Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel are starring, there will be original music from Charli XCX and Jack Antonoff and it’s all pulled together by indie film powerhouse, A24 (responsible for the most viral films of the last few years including Babygirl, The Brutalist and Materialists). Intrigued? Of course you are.
What Is The Plot Of The Movie Mother Mary?
Mother Mary follows Hathaway’s character, a pop diva who, facing an existential crisis, abandons her tour to seek out an old friend who first helped craft her iconic persona.
Any further details about the film have been kept under wraps, however tidbits from the cast have hinted at an air of chaos. We also know Hathaway underwent intense vocal and dance training for the role.
“It’s very brave work that she’s done,” Coel said of her co-star during an interview with Vogue. “The physicality she had to learn in preparation for this job — and it’s not just us in [that scene], it’s the crew, it’s the producers, and so of course this day was terrifying, a little monster on her shoulder, but no one realized until after the first take. And then to keep doing it — take after take. That requires a lot of strength. Gallons and tons.”
Maya Singer, the Vogue writer behind the piece, reveals the cast may have gone “temporarily, mildly insane” on set before adding the production (which is almost complete) can only be described as “a very weird movie.”

Understandably given the premise of the film, the soundtrack needed to be impeccable. As such, Charli XCX and Jack Antonoff were tapped for the job.
The ‘Apple’ singer revealed she took inspiration from footage of Anne on set when creating the music.
“Anne’s movement was super graphic, very thrashing and jerky and bold in this super magical and scary way. It felt volatile and gripping, so Jack and I went away and thought about that,” she said.
While, we’re still in the dark about a lot of the details, we’re expecting not only a killer film but an epic album to match.
