If like us (and everyone else) you read E. Lockhart’s best-selling novel, We Were Liars, the news of its television series adaptation probably had you giddy with nostalgic excitement.
The psychological YA novel became a New York Time bestseller following its 2024 release, and judging by the first trailer, we expect the new series to see the same success.
The story follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her inner circle as she pieces together a mysterious accident that changed all their lives. More on that below.

What Is The We Were Liars Plot
The TV adaptation of We Were Liars closely follows the plot of the book on which it is based.
The liars (self-named, we might add) at the centre of the story are our protagonist, Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her inner circle – cousins Johnny and Mirren and friend, Gat.
The liars spend every summer together on their granddad’s private island, until one year a mysterious accident changes everything. As the story unfolds, we slowly piece together what really happened as Cadence investigates and learns the truth.

Who Is In The We Were Liars Cast
The cast of We Were Liars is a stunning blend of new and familiar faces.
Emily Alyn Lind, who you may recognise from the Gossip Girl reboot or from her time portraying the young version of Amanda Clarke in Revenge, takes on the role of Cadence.
Lind is joined by Shubham Maheshwari as Gat and Esther McGregor as Mirren.
Rising star and Australian actor, Joseph Zada, who was recently tapped to play Haymitch in the new Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping adaptation, plays Johnny.
You may also recognise Candice King of Vampire Diaries fame, David Morse (Disturbia, The Green Mile, The Morning Show) and Caitlin FitzGerald from Succession and Sweet Bitter among the cast.
We Were Liars Release Date In Australia
We Were Liars will be available to watch in Australia exclusively on Prime Video from June 18th. All eight episodes will drop at once, making for perfect binge-watching material.
