Warning: This article contains major spoilers about House Of The Dragon season two.
We’ve finally seen it all… well, kind of. After the highly anticipated first season of House Of The Dragon came to an end, fans set their sights on the second season—and rather conveniently, we already have an idea about what it will entail.
The first season came to a dramatic end when it premiered, with 9.3 million viewers tuning in to see how things panned out for the Targaryens. From Lucerys’ death to Rhaenyra’s extremely graphic stillbirth, it left viewers wide-eyed, shocked and ultimately wondering what comes next.
Well, we won’t have to wonder for long—with the first teaser for the second season already here (watch it in the video player above!). Keep scrolling for everything you need to know about it.
What is the plot of House Of The Dragon season 2?
At the very end of season one, we saw Rhaenyra (played by Emma D’Arcy) learning that her son had been killed. Her grief and fury was palpable; she wants revenge. War, it seems, is coming.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, which tracks the civil war, ultimately leading to the new ruler sitting on the Iron Throne. Showrunner Ryan Condal revealed that season one was somewhat of an introduction to Martin’s book and its characters because he deemed it important to “understand these people’s complexities before they’re thrown into the war”.
He added that the second season will relate most to the middle seasons of HBO’s original series (and sequel to HotD) Game of Thrones, but with more humour.
“I think Matt Smith is very funny. If there is one character that does not care, it is Daemon,” the showrunner quipped to Deadline.
When will House Of The Dragon season 2 be released?
You can expect a release date for season two at some point in 2024. Yes, that’s a bit of a long wait. Guess we’ll just have to rewatch all of season one (and all of Game Of Thrones) to pass the time…
While a specific date hasn’t been confirmed, HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys told Variety that sometime in 2024 “is a good guess” for the hit series’ return.
He also said that the season most likely won’t be eligible for the Emmys held that year, leading us to believe that the release date will be set for after the eligibility period closes on May 31, 2024.
Who is in the cast of House Of The Dragon season 2?
All the main actors (that survived the full first season, at least) have been confirmed to reprise their roles for season two. That’s Matt Smith as Daemon, Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower.
It will also see Eve Best as Rhaenys, Steve Toussaintas Corlys Velaryon and Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.
Joining them for the first time will be Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne, among others.
