The Documentaries To Watch On The Idaho College Murders If You Still Want Answers

The case that shook the world
idaho murders

The Idaho Murders, as they’ve been dubbed online, have become one of the most talked-about and unnerving true crime cases of this decade.

The horrifying crime saw four University of Idaho students – Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin – killed in their sleep at the sharehouse they rented together in the early morning on November 13, 2022.

The case baffled and fascinated the world and spurred a slew of podcasts, docuseries and amateur sleuth investigations as well as an overwhelming social media response – mostly to the detriment of the friends, family and community involved in the case.

Online, conspiracy theories ran rampant as the world tried to make sense of the horrific crime, who was behind it, why two of the housemates – Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen – were left behind and, most of all, the motive.

It didn’t take long for police to arrest and charge a suspect: Bryan Kohberger.

But even as the trial unfolded, many questions remained unanswered.

On July 24th, Kohberger pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life without parole for all four murders following a plea deal that saw him avoid the death penalty.

All of the above and more is explored in multiple true crime documentaries, including One Night In Idaho: The College Murders and The Idaho College Murders.

Where Can I Watch The Idaho College Murders In Australia?

Four part documentary,  One Night In Idaho: The College Murders, focuses on the family and friends of the victims including Madison Mogen and Ethan Chapin’s parents and is available to watch in Australia on Prime Video.

The docuseries recounts the events of the crime, the unravelling of the case and the disturbing online reaction that ensued. Due to doco being filmed prior to Kohberger being sentenced and a gag-order being placed by the court, many details had to be omitted from the series.

The second documentary available to stream in Australia is The Idaho College Murders, which is also available through Prime Video.

Now that the trial is over, never-before-seen police documents have been released providing more insight than ever into the crime.

Will There Be More Episodes Of One Night In Idaho: The College Murders Post-Trial?

Directors Liz Garbus and Matthew Galkin were present for the sentencing of Kohberger, revealing to TV Insider they captured a small amount of footage outside the courthouse but were not permitted to film within.

When asked about filming and releasing more episodes now the trial has concluded, Galkin said: There’s nothing official in the works right now, but if there is more story to tell, and if there is an appetite with our partners to tell it, we are 100% open to doing it.”

What’s In The Idaho Murders Court & Police Documents?

One of the biggest drivers of a possible second season or follow up episodes of One Night In Idaho: The College Murders is the lifting of the court’s gag order and release of police documents on the case.

Within the documents are accounts of Kaylee expressing concerns she may have been stalked including seeing an unknown man “up above their house to the south” as well as evidence that suggests what unfolded in the house between Kohberger and Xana.
