Why You Need To Watch The Mayor of Kingstown

If you’ve blown through every overhyped new TV release, Mayor of Kingstown is the under-the-radar standout you need to cue up next.

Set in the fictional rust-belt town of Kingstown, Michigan, Paramount+’s series Mayor of Kingstown zeroes in on the corrupt underbelly of a city where incarceration isn’t just an industry but its entire economy.

For decades, the McLusky family has held the town together by playing power-broker between street gangs, inmates, correctional officers and corrupt cops.

At the centre is Mike McLusky (played by Oscar-nominated actor Jeremy Renner), who unexpectedly assumes leadership of the family’s operation by becoming the de facto mayor of Kingstown.

His job? To keep this broken town stitched together by negotiating with the very forces that are tearing it apart. In season four (out now), we see Kingstown plunged into fresh chaos as escalating street tensions force Mike into his most volatile tightrope walk yet.

If you’re drawn to gritty crime-world dramas such as Sons of Anarchy and Ozark, this high-stakes series is for you.

Watch it for its edge-of-your-seat intensity and stay for the unflinching look at systemic corruption, inequality, violence and cycles of incarceration.
