These days, Nick and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are married with a beautiful baby girl, Malti.
But it wasn’t so long ago that the pair were flirting over Instagram and making us all obsess over their relationship status.
Below, we look back on their relationship journey.
September 2016
Their love story starts as many modern ones do: with a cheeky DM. According to Nick, who told Vogue the story in 2018, he slid into Priyanka’s Twitter DMs with the message: “I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet,” to which Priyanka replied, “my team can read this. Why don’t you just text me.”
The pair texted back and forth, in a tone that Nick described as “friendly with an eye toward flirtation.”
February 2017
The couple meet for the first time at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars after party.
“And I put my drink down,” Jonas told Vogue, “get on one knee—this is in front of a bunch of people—and I say, ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’ Like, loud.”
However, as Priyanka had a flight to India to catch, she simply told him “I have five minutes,” and agreed to get a drink.
April 2017
The pair meet for a drink in New York City one week before the Met Gala. The drink must have gone well because Priyanka invited Nick back to her apartment, where they reportedly, “hung out for a couple of hours.”
However, as Priyanka’s mum was in the house, Nick simply patted her on the back as he left to be respectful.
“It was too respectful if you ask me,” Priyanka told Vogue.
May 2017
The couple make their first public appearance at the Met Gala—both in Ralph Lauren.
Coincidently, the designer had invited both of them to attend the event without knowing about their brewing romance.
According to Nick’s brother, Joe Jonas, who was also at the event, Nick was completely smitten.
“He was just this little puppy dog,” Joe told Vogue, adding that he and now-wife Sophie Turner “were just laughing at him. We’re like, ‘Look at this little smitten, drunk kid right now.'”
May 2018
An entire year passes before the pair see each other again—at the next Met Gala.
“Our lives were kind of taking us different places and the thing is that was funny is people would ask us, both in interview settings and in private, ‘Are you guys seeing each other?’ and the answer was no,” Nick told Jimmy Fallon.
A couple of weeks later, Nick invited Priyanka to the Beauty and the Beast live show. The pair met at the famous LA hotel Chateau Marmont before the show.
“She walks into the Chateau, and I feel an overwhelming sense of peace and understanding about this next chapter of my life,” Nick told Vogue.
The couple were then spotted attending a Dodgers game together the next day, and then cosying up together on a boat.
A few days later, Us Weekly reports that the couple are officially dating.
June 2018
At this stage, Nick and Priyanka hadn’t confirmed they were dating and fans were waiting for any sign of their blossoming romance.
It came when Nick left a comment on one of Priyanka’s Instagram photos, writing “That smile” with a heart emoji.
The comment received over 32,000 likes and 2,656 replies, with fans taking it as a sign the couple were together.
A few days later, Priyanka commented on an Instagram photo of Nick with a koala at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo, writing: “Who’s cuter? Lol”.
That same month, the pair were spotted attending Nick’s cousin’s wedding together.
The relationship seemed to be confirmed when Nick posted a video of Priyanka on his Instagram story, with the caption “her” and the heart eyes emoji. A few days later, Priyanka posted a video of Nick and her brother on a beach in India, with the caption: “My favourite men.”
July 2018
Just two months after their relationship is confirmed, the couple get engaged. Nick chose to propose to Priyanka while on holiday in Greece for the actress’s birthday.
But to make sure the moment doesn’t overshadow her day, Nick waits until after midnight to get on one knee.
“I said, ‘Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?’” Nick told Vogue of the proposal, which reportedly stunned Priyanka.
“No joke—she took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence,” he recalls. But he went on to give her the ring, saying, “I’m going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections.”
August 2018
The newly-engaged couple celebrate their engagement in India with a Roka ceremony, which involves a Hindu priest offering his blessings. To celebrate the occasion, Nick even impression his future in-laws by saying prayers in Sanskrit.
The couple also announce their engagement on Instagram with a photograph of the couple in traditional Indian clothing.
December 2018
The couple tie the knot in Jodhpur with two extravagant weddings: a traditional Indian wedding at Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace and a Christian service officiated by Nick’s father.
“Being able to have two big weddings, in India, with our closest family and friends was unbelievably special,” Priyanka told People at the time, adding, “It was all tears. All tears.”
January 2019
Nick and Priyanka jet off to the Caribbean for their honeymoon.
“She had no idea it was going to be the Caribbean and Nick is planning everything for the trip, it’s all a complete surprise to Priyanka,” a source told E! News. “She knew it was a honeymoon trip but didn’t find out where they were going until they landed.”
February 2019
Priyanka reveals her new name is taking some getting used to.
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Priyanka explained: “It’s a big deal! I didn’t realise it was that much of a big deal until I did it.”
“I always wanted to add his name to mine because I feel like we’re becoming family, and I’m a little traditional and old school like that. But I don’t take away my identity. He gets added to who I am.”

Nick hints that he’s ready to start a family with his wife, telling E! News, “I think that in everything we do, you know, my brothers and I, Priyanka and I, everything we do we think about the future, and building something that becomes a part of a legacy in some way, and a story we can share with our kids in the future.”

Nick experiences his first Holi (the Hindu festival of colours) with Priyanka.
“So much fun celebrating with such incredible people here in my second home in India,” he wrote on Instagram.

Priyanka and Nick celebrate their second wedding anniversary with sweet Instagram posts.

Priyanka was asked whether the couple’s ten year age gap was more difficult than overcoming cultural differences in a rare interview with The Sunday Times.
“Neither was a hurdle,” Priyanka said. “Nick took to India like a fish to water. But just like a normal couple, you have to understand each other’s habits and what each other likes. So it’s more of an adventure than trying to figure out hurdles. None of it was really that hard.”

The couple share their struggles during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This year has been really, really tough. It was really, really tough to be away from home for an entire year, especially at a time when you can’t travel to see your family,” Chopra says on InStyle‘s Ladies First with Laura Brown podcast. “Just the uncertainty of my mom and my brother being in India, my husband being in America while I was in the U.K. It just was so much uncertainty and that, to me, was terrifying of not being able to just get on a flight and travel, just in case something went wrong or something happened. But thankfully, you know, everyone was okay.
“We didn’t have a dramatic separation, but because he was in and out, we had to be really careful. He had to quarantine, I had to quarantine whenever we saw each other at that time.
“It was all really tricky, but we managed. He flew down a bunch of times, I flew down a couple of times. We know each other’s hearts and we prioritize each other in everything that we do.
“It’s very important to keep a check on another person’s heart and how they’re feeling. And I have to say, my husband’s amazing at doing that,” she says of how she and Jonas have managed to work through the situation. “Like I said, this year was hard for me being in London. He would just drop everything—come in for even, like a day—just to have dinner with me and fly back. Stuff like that, you just have to prioritize each other and then everything feels right.”
