There are few cities as visually dynamic as Sydney. The harbour glimmers with constant motion, ferries carving paths through water alive with marine life, while the Opera House and Harbour Bridge stand immovable in their authority.
For those of us who call the city home, this beauty can become strangely habitual, absorbed into the background of daily life. Sometimes, it takes a change of perspective to really admire it again.
Which is exactly how I found myself enjoying a staycation last weekend, trading routine for something a little more indulgent.
Housed within the former Treasury Building on Circular Quay, InterContinental Sydney sits at the meeting point between sandstone history and the glittering harbour beyond. From the street, the façade feels elegant and assured. Upstairs, the building opens outward, revealing one of the most beautiful outlooks in the city.
This is not a hotel focused on reinvention, but refinement. From the moment I checked in for my luxury suite experience, a sense of anticipation set in.

The Suite Experience
The hotel’s luxury suites are defined by space, composure and ease. Generous in scale, each is dressed in refined finishes and a softened, neutral palette that mirrors the tones of the harbour outside.
Floor to ceiling windows frame the water, inviting you to slow down and simply take it all in. Interiors favour restraint over excess, where plush textures meet tailored lines and every element feels deliberate, calming and beautifully resolved.
A bottle of Champagne awaits on arrival, a small but meaningful gesture that set the tone for my stay. This is time reserved for indulgence. The suite becomes more than just accommodation. It feels like a vantage point, a place from which Sydney is observed rather than navigated, which for me, is rare.
The bathroom is equally generous, stocked with Byredo amenities (a personal favourite of mine). Later, after an evening of wining and dining, I slipped between crisp white sheets and sank into the bed’s pillowy embrace, drifting into what may genuinely have been the deepest, most restorative sleep of my life.

Aster Rooftop Bar
As daylight receded, my attention naturally shifted upward.
Aster Rooftop Bar, positioned on the top floor of the hotel, occupies one of Sydney’s most privileged vantage points, offering uninterrupted views across the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
Included as part of the suite experience are two signature cocktails and curated bar snacks. For me, this meant ordering the most theatrical and delicious cocktail I have ever encountered, complete with suspended, iridescent bubbles that slowly dripped and dissolved into the cocktail, subtly enhancing its flavour. Did I mention it was served in a glass shell?
As evening settled in, the atmosphere transformed. A gentle hum filled the space as the harbour lights flickered to life below, the Opera House glowing softly against the darkening sky. By the time our cheese board arrived, the lighting had dipped low and moody, the kind that encourages one to tuck in with unashamed glee.
It is here that the hotel’s identity truly crystallises. Confident, composed and deeply attuned to its surroundings.

Morning Rituals
Daily breakfast is served in The Conservatory, where heritage architecture meets contemporary refinement. After a late night, however, I opted for a slower start, choosing to have breakfast delivered straight to my bed. Because is it really a staycation if you are not lifting the lid of a silver cloche in those aforementioned crisp white sheets?
The menu is generous and thoughtfully curated, spanning classic breakfast staples alongside seasonal produce, all delivered with attentive service.
As a coeliac, dining away from home can often require negotiation, but here I felt completely at ease. The staff were confident, informed and genuinely attentive when it came to food allergies, allowing me to relax and enjoy the experience without hesitation.
It was the morning rush, done properly.

Considered Indulgence
A late checkout until 1pm extends the sense of calm. The final morning unfolds without urgency, leaving space for stillness, quiet reflection and, for me, a restorative dip in the pool.
Designed for milestone celebrations, romantic escapes and elevated city stays, InterContinental Sydney’s Luxury Suite experience is a study in balance and considered indulgence. It is the rare kind of stay that lingers long after departure and one I already find myself eager to return to.
