Angelina Jolie isn’t typically one to open up about her personal life, particularly when it comes to her six children. But now, the Eternals star has spoken candidly about how she approaches motherhood on a day-to-day basis, including the kinds of people she hopes her children will grow up to be.
In an inclusive interview with People, Jolie admitted that much like most mothers, she can be rather harsh on herself when it comes to self-evaluation of her own parenting techniques.
“I’m not a perfect parent by any means,” she told the publication. “Every day I feel like I’m more aware of everything I don’t do right. And I’m pretty tough on myself, because I feel often, ‘Am I doing the right thing? Did I says the right thing?'”
When it came to specifically talking about her children—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox—whom she shares with Brad Pitt, Jolie gushed when opening up about their gentle and kind natures.
“My children have done many, many loving things. My children’s kindness has been very healing to me,” she said.
“They’re pretty great people, and because there’s so many of them, I think they’ve had a very significant effect on each other,” she added. “It’s not like I’m the head of anything. I’m very honest with my kids. And I’m very human with my kids”.
The 46-year-old went on to address her priorities as a parent, especially when raising six very unique children, that involve being there “to support and develop all different aspects of who they are”.
“I have six very individual human beings in my home. I am so excited about all the different stages and feelings and curiosities that they go through,” she explained.
“Why wouldn’t you be? We’re supposed to help them figure out who they are. And you can’t figure out who they are if you don’t enthusiastically develop with them.”
As for where her posse are now, the last we saw of the family was when they all joined Jolie on the red carpet of the premiere of Eternals, their mother’s latest film. There, Zahara was seen wearing her mother’s gold Elie Saab Couture gown that she wore to the 2014 Academy Awards.
And of course, she looked just as stunning as her mother did. And it’s quite clear that each of her children will grow up to be just as impressive as Jolie.
