Brooklyn Beckham sent the internet into meltdown yesterday airing his family drama for the world to dissect, a decision the likes of which we haven’t seen since the infamous departure of Harry and Megan from the Royal Family.
The 26-year-old accused his family of attempting to “control the narratives” surrounding his life and of “trying endlessly to ruin” his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled. I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
In the 24 hours since, conversation online, in the office, on the street and in every group chat has been cannibalised by the controversy. Not to mention, the endless flow of memes about Victoria Beckham alleged dancing at the Peltz-Beckham wedding.
The key point of conversation everyone keeps coming back to, however, is whether Victoria and David Beckham will acknowledge or respond to the scathing six-page post.
Just one day after Brooklyn’s viral post, news stories have begun circling about his father, Sir David Beckham, breaking his silence on the matter, which isn’t exactly true.
In an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box on Tuesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, David engaged in a general conversation about the risks of social media whereby he touched on his experience raising his own children in the tech-heavy era.
“Children are allowed to make mistakes, that’s how they learn. So that’s what I try to teach my kids,” he said. “But you know, you have to sometimes let them make those mistakes as well.”
Given the timing of the comment and the way Brooklyn chose to air his grievances – via Instagram – it’s raised more than a few eyebrows.
At this stage, there’s been no formal comment or response from Brooklyn’s parents about his claims.
