It was the musical that even those of us who hated musicals loved.
And although Julie Andrews was the lead actress, it was the eldest Von Trapp sister, the beautiful Lisel – with her illicit love affair and frou-frou pink dress – that we all wanted to be.
Sadly, today it was announced that the actress who played Lisel, Charmian Carr, had died aged 73.
Carr died in Los Angeles after complications from a rare form of dementia, her representative told the BBC.

The real life Liesl, Agathe von Trapp, the eldest daughter of the Austrian family who inspired the film, died aged 97 in 2010.
