When it comes to the women of the Royal family, there's little that regal fans don't know about them. From their favourite, must-have products to their beauty rules they'll never break, there's little left to discover about the famous family. Except, perhaps, how they smell.

While knowledge about their lives pre-royalty or their prince and princess offspring is plentiful, not much else is known about something just as personal to them, like their signature scent.

Of course, perfume is not visible in the same way makeup is, but when it comes to fragrances, it is undeniably memorable.

The perfect spritz can whisk one back to a monumental life moment, such as a royal wedding, or connect one to a moment in time they wish to hold dear, the birth of a royal baby.

Queen Elizabeth II

Apparently, Queen Elizabeth II opts for a fragrance by Guerlain, called 'L'Heure Bleue'. Created in 1912, the spicy scent has notes of florals and citrus with a powdery dry down. It is thought that Her Majesty chose the perfume to wear on for her wedding day to Prince Phillip in November 1947, and it’s remained close to her heart—and her wrists—since then.

Princess Diana

When it came to Princess Diana's wedding to Prince Charles in 1981, Lady Di opted for a soft, white floral scent. The late Princess of Wales chose to wear Houbiquant's Quelques Fleurs, which sports a fragrant blend of tuberose, jasmine, lily of the valley, and rose. According to Diana's makeup artist, Mary Greenwell, Penhaligon’s Bluebell Eau de Toilette was yet another fragrance favoured by the Princess. As for this scent, it was a “citrus floral with notes of lily of the valley, rose, jasmine and a touch of clove.”

Kate Middleton

As for Kate Middleton, Clarence House confirmed that when she wed Prince William in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge wore 'White Gardenia Petals' by Illuminum. After her wedding perfume was announced, the small brand behind the soft, floral scent achieved overnight success, with reports that the scent sold out within minutes of the discovering Kate's love for it. However, the Duchess also reportedly loves a spritz of Dior's 'Dune', thanks to its warm, summery scent with notes of lily, bergamot, vanilla and sandalwood.

Meghan Markle

When it comes to the newest royal, Meghan Markle is apparently a huge fan of perfumes. According to The Express, she owns not one, but three signature scents.

“Fragrance is my favourite thing. So much so that if I leave the house and I don’t put any on, I’ll turn around and go back home,” she said. “I alternate between a few scents. I love Oribe Côte d’Azur Eau de Parfum and both the Wild Bluebell and Wood Sage & Sea Salt Colognes by Jo Malone.”

Grace Kelly

During her wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956, Grace Kelly famously wore a fragrance called 'Fleurissimo' from Creed—a royal favourite since 1780—that was commissioned by her soon-to-be husband as a wedding gift for her. The aristocratic scent dries down into notes of tuberose, violet, iris, and Bulgarian rose.

Marie Antoinette

In 2011, French fragrance house Lubin uncovered a formula for the fragrance that the fashion house had made for the Queen prior to her death in 1793. As a result, they created a reincarnation of the perfume with a mix of rose, jasmine, cinnamon, incense, and sandalwood, calling it Black Jade.

Princess Caroline of Monaco

Much like her mother, Grace, Princess Caroline of Monaco leaned more toward fragrances with a floral scent. Her choice? Annick Goutal's 'Passion', which is a delicate mix of jasmine, tuberose, ylang-ylang and vanilla. Let's just say, this classic fragrance is certainly one that Grace Kelly would approve of.
