Anyone with a medium-to-large bust will likely tell you the same few truths: shopping for a bra is, at best, a chore; the wrong bra can derail an entire outfit; and—perhaps most importantly—push-up bras are a thing of the past.
And controversially, I think we’re all better for it.
I was—like many of us—a young, impressionable teenager that spent years looking at Victoria’s Secret models and assuming push-up bras were the gold standard. On me, though, it felt less like a subtle boost and more like everything had been dialled up far too much.

Thankfully, the conversation has shifted away from gravity defying push-up brass. These days, we’re leaning into softer silhouettes, with comfort leading the design brief. Soft cups, bralettes and minimal styles are reigning supreme. And honestly, my chest couldn’t be more grateful.
Unlined bras, typically crafted from supportive mesh, lace or polyamide, strip away the bulk of padding in favour of a more natural shape. They sit closer to the body, allowing the bust to fall as it should—no pushing, prodding or unnatural lift required.
Of course, they do come with the caveat of being a little… nipply. Without padding to soften things (particularly in cooler weather), they call for a touch more consideration depending on the setting.
While that might not suit every occasion, there’s something refreshing about embracing a shape that feels entirely natural. In an era that’s steadily unlearning outdated ideas about what bodies “should” look like, a little texture hardly feels like the scandal it once was.
