Evan Rachel Wood Is Barely Recognisable After ‘80s Madonna Transformation For New Film

Madame X personified.

There’s no denying that onscreen reincarnations of famous figures has been all the rage lately. And now, Evan Rachel Wood is the latest celebrity to undergo a head-to-toe transformation.

For Wood, her voyage into doppelgänger territory wasn’t just for fun, but instead, was in homage to the ’80s music icon, Madonna for the latest biopic about Weird Al Yankovic.

Posting a photo of herself in costume as the “Material Girl” singer, the Westworld star has an uncanny resemblance to the superstar circa 1984.

Starring in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, the film will follow musician “Weird Al” Yankovic’s strange but successful career, with Harry Potter‘s Daniel Radcliffe taking on the role of the curly-haired jokester.

But what business does Madonna have in this film? Well, one of Yankovic’s most successful songs, “Like A Surgeon”, was a take on Madonna’s hit “Like A Virgin”. Rumour has it, the parody was Madonna’s idea, so her appearance in the biopic makes so much more sense.

“The secret’s out!” Wood wrote under a photo. In the image, Wood can be seen in Madonna’s iconic black-and-white, lacy ensemble while adorned in the musician’s signature jewellery. As for the hair, her tresses are dirty-blonde à la ’80s Madonna with dark roots, paired with a tulle headband.

When looking closer at Wood’s makeup, there’s a clear ode to the superstar. The film’s makeup artists have precisely shaped Wood’s lip line to look more like Madonna’s mouth, completing the look with a glossy berry red shade.

Wood’s eyes are lined with black, and she’s wearing a golden yellow and coppery brown eyeshadow. Brows are fluffed to perfection, her cheeks boast a wash of bright pink blush, and the look is finished off with a small dot above the lip to represent Madonna’s beauty mark.

Sharing her work to Instagram, makeup artist Kat Bardot explained that this was “one of a handful of looks” that was created for Wood’s Madonna and that the actor has been “an absolute joy” to work with.

As for how Radcliffe is going to look as Weird Al himself? Well, we’ll have to wait and see the remaining onscreen transformations—and honestly, we have high hopes.
