‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 Will Feature Regency Renditions Of Harry Styles, Rihanna & More

Blessed be thou ears.

With the highly-anticipated second season of Bridgerton on its way, fans of the period drama are in for a ye olde treat.

While the first instalment of the Regency-era series saw grandiose costuming, juicy plot lines and, well, a lot of R-rated activities, it also earned praise for its classical covers of modern-day hit songs.

And now, Netflix is scratching our musical itch. At their Tudum event, the streaming giant confirmed that Bridgerton will be back with another track list of orchestral covers.

Topping the list will be classic ’90s hits like Nirvana’s “Stay Away”, Madonna’s iconic “Material Girl” and Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know”, followed closely by hits from the 21st Century, including Rihanna’s 2012 song “Diamonds” and Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own”.

With British-Indian actress Simone Ashley joining the cast as Viscount Anthony’s love interest Kate Sharma, the show will be including their take on popular Bollywood film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, with a song of the same name by Lata Mangeshkar.

One of the most popular songs from the soundtrack is bound to be Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times,” which was surprisingly rather difficult to acquire for the show.

“That one was a pretty difficult clearance. That one took the longest to get everyone to sign off on. I think everyone will really love it,” music supervisor Justin Kamps told Tudum.

“When Harry Styles’ team signed off, I was very excited about that because I was just like, ‘This is just a beautiful use’,” he said.

“So even though it wasn’t a direct, ‘We love this,’ it felt like, ‘Ah, yes, they approved this, they’re giving their approval. They enjoy the sequence.’ And now, I can’t wait for all the fans to see it.”

Finishing off the list are P!nk’s “What About Us”, Calvin Harris’ 2016 smash hit “How Deep Is Your Love” and Miley Cyrus’ unforgettable 2013 track, “Wrecking Ball.”

As for which musical stars didn’t make the cut, Kamps confessed that he hopes to include Doja Cat, Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo in the future.

“I was a big fan of the Olivia Rodrigo album [Sour] this past year. And there are some songs on there that I would just love to get in there,” he admitted.

“I really love the song ‘Happier.’ I thought that was such a beautiful and sad song. I don’t know if the right situation would come up for that, but I think that would be great, or ‘Traitor.’”

“We did get some Olivia Rodrigo string covers this season, but just didn’t find the right place for them. So, that’s something I would like to include because I just think her songwriting is great and it makes for some beautiful string quartet versions.”

Draw the carriages and prepare your corsets, Bridgerton season 2 is set to hit our screens on March 25, 2022 on Netflix.
