A good leather jacket won’t just last you a season, it’ll live on for a lifetime.
Sure, they’re often investment items that’ll cost you, but shop right and care for your leather jacket, and you’ll have a classic wardrobe staple you can throw over everything from cute summer dresses to weekend denim.
But which leather jacket to choose? While a few years back the one and only choice was a biker jacket, these days you’re likely to find leather jackets spanning trends from the 70s revival through to 90s minimalism.
Our advice? Select a leather jacket that feels a little classic, a little modern.
Longer or oversized vintage shapes will live on for years, while still feeling up-to-date. But if you’re after the must-have shape of the season, funnel-neck and bomber styles in rich chocolate brown hues are the style to shop. Vintage is always an option, too – there are plenty of well-maintained leather jackets you’ll find in op shops and consignment stores.
Personally, I’ve been living in Henne’s Nova Jacket. The oversized boxy silhouette makes for effortless wearing, but what I’ve loved most is its styling versatility — I’ve been wearing it folded under at the waist and buttoned up to the top or open and slouchy with the sleeves pushed right up for a more relaxed look.
