‘Bachelor In Paradise’s’ Ivan “Ashamed” Over His Behaviour On The Series

After viewers labelled his actions "abusive"

On Ali Oetjen’s season of The Bachelorettecontestant Ivan Krslovic won viewers hearts with his dancing and inability to peel an avocado. But, his latest appearance on Channel 10’s Bachelor In Paradise has left a different opinion on viewers.

After making an early connection with lovable Brittney, things took a turn when Tenille arrived in Paradise and the two embarked on a relationship that quickly turned into, what viewers have labelled, as “abusive”.

Ivan became toxic and controlling of Tenille, and began cutting her off from people in Paradise. Ivan also used words as “territory” and “mine” to describe Tenille, despite having only known one another for just six days.

After some serious backlash on Twitter, Ivan took to his Instagram account to issue an apology.

“I would like to wholeheartedly apologise for my behaviour in Paradise,” he wrote. “It is not a part of me that I knew was there and I’m ashamed and embarrassed watching the show back not just as a man but as a human.
“I work really hard to impact people and the world in a positive way and unfortunately I have done the exact opposite here. I was in a foreign environment with heightened emotions and I didn’t realise that past experiences would manifest within me in such a negative way.”

What viewers need to remember is that Ivan’s controlling behaviour wasn’t just entertaining drama for the sake of reality TV, it was abuse.

1800-RESPECT describes social abuse as, “behaviour that aims to cut you off from your family, friends, or community. It can also involve a person or people trying to damage your relationships with others. People who are socially abusive may also attempt to make you look bad or ruin your reputation. Social abuse can include things done in the home, in public, over the phone, or on the internet and social media.”

If you are being abused, or know someone who is, please call 1800RESPECT. If you are in immediate danger call 000.
