After weeks of tense dinner parties, emotional commitment ceremonies and more than a few unexpected twists, this season of Married At First Sight Australia has drawn to a close, albeit one that unfolded a little differently.
For the first time, the fourth wall was broken with the introduction of MAFS: After The Dinner Party on Stan.
Hosted by media personalities Jules Lund, Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne, the series invited us not just to watch the carefully curated edit of the experiment, but to see what comes after, the moments that unfold once the cameras would usually cut, and the space for participants to explain themselves more fully.
For bride Gia Fleur, who found herself entangled in more drama than warranted, that opportunity for reflection has been telling.
Given the space to unpack her experience in full, Gia’s uncut, extended interview moves beyond her steely exterior, revealing a more vulnerable and self-aware side that is notably open to accountability.
Reflecting on the moments that defined her time on the show, she unpacks the breakdown of her relationship with Scott, as well as the way she conducted herself both on and off camera. Watching it back, she admits, has not been easy.
“There isn’t a TV Gia and a real-life Gia,” she says. “That’s what I’m capable of when I’m at my worst.”
The sentiment gestures towards a broader shift this season. Where MAFS has historically positioned its male participants as the primary antagonists, this year much of the tension has been driven by the brides, namely Gia, Brook and Bec.
What emerged was a strain of performative feminism, defined by ‘girl’s girl’ platitudes yet undercut by behaviour that frequently veered into hostility, making their treatment of both fellow participants and their partners difficult to watch.
Within that context, Gia opens up about the more emotional dimensions of the experience, particularly in relation to her relationship with Scott. While it ultimately didn’t last, she frames it as an opportunity to be vulnerable again after years of holding herself back.
At the same time, she acknowledges the ways things unravelled, speaking candidly about insecurity, the need for reassurance, and how those feelings sometimes surfaced in ways she now regrets.
“I can’t have a healthy relationship or friendships acting like that,” she says, adding that she has since started therapy and is working to address those patterns.
“I’m not just a horrible person every single day of my life. I wish more of the good was shown, but, you know, it is what it is. All I can do is grow,” she adds.
While the interview stops short of offering a neat resolution, it does provide greater context for Gia’s behaviour, alongside a clear attempt at accountability.
Is Gia Fleur Now Dating Alan Wallace?
Since leaving MAFS, Gia has revealed she is now in a relationship with Alan Wallace, a former contestant on Love Triangle, the Stan dating series produced by the same team behind MAFS. Speaking to the Daily Mail, she described herself as “so in love”, signalling a swift, if somewhat unexpected, shift in her post-experiment romantic life.
Wallace, who appeared on the show in 2023, is an ex semi-professional AFL player turned electrician. He was a memorable, and at times divisive, presence during his season.
