Fresh off the heels of its latest 10-episode season, showrunners FX have confirmed plans to extend the series, serving up another helping of our favourite hospo drama starring Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

The Bear continues to be a fan favorite worldwide and their response to this season — as seen through incredibly high viewership — has been as spectacular as any of its previous seasons,” said FX Chairman John Landgraf per Deadline. “Year-in and year-out, Chris Storer, the producers, cast and crew make The Bear one of the best shows on television, and we are excited that they will continue to tell this magnificent story”

Below, everything we know about what to expect from The Bear season 5.

Is There A Season 5 Of The Bear?

The announcement comes just a week after the premiere of season four, which has surpassed the popularity of its previous season with a score of 84 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

While many saw the finale episode as a neat (though open-ended) bookend to the series, there were many questions still hanging over the future of the series. Would Carmy ever be able to curtail his crippling self doubt? Would Syd ever feel like she could step out of Carmy’s shadow? And, most importantly, will we ever see our favourite Copenhagen-based chef Luca (Will Poulter’s character) again?

All these, and more, will hopefully be addressed in the show’s next iteration.

Is Carmy Leaving The Bear?

In The Bear season 4 finale, titled (rather forebodingly) Goodbye, the series takes a turn a emotional turn. And not in the chaotic, Berzatto family dinner kind of way, but in a way that felt more final than any episode we’d seen so far.

The episode, shot in the one location, as a single, cinematic scene, brought viewers back to the basics of why we all fell in love with The Bear in the first place – its complex characters, all tackling various emotional demons in their own way, while battling it out to become better versions of themselves in the process.

Nowhere is this more evident than in Carmy’s final decision to leave The Bear. While it’s clear ‘the family’ aren’t in agreeance with his reasons to do so (Sugar aside), Carmy’s ability to recognise the toll the restaurant is taking on both himself and everyone around him, is an essential ingredient in his continued emotional growth. Notably, it’s also a much-needed departure from the last two seasons, where we were forced to watch as Carmy repeated the same self-destructive mistakes over and over.

After handing over The Bear to Syd, Carmy promises to stay on until the timer runs out – both literally and metaphorically – on the Jimmy’s financing. But whether or not his remaining time will be enough to shift the dial on his existential crisis is yet to be seen.
