Nicola Coughlan To Play a Fairy In ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ Movie

Claire Foy, Andrew Garfield and Jessica Gunning are also on board.

More than 80 years after the first book in the series was published, Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree is being adapted for the big screen.

A starry cast is set to lead the production, including Bridgerton actress and marie claire Australia cover star, Nicola Coughlan.

The Irish actor will play the woodland fairy Silky, it has been confirmed. She will be joined by Ted Lasso’s Nonso Anozie and Baby Reindeer breakout star, Jessica Gunning as Moonface and Dame Washalot, respectfully. Major names like Andrew Garfield and The Crown’s Claire Foy are also involved.

What Is The Plot Of The Faraway Tree?

The Faraway Tree is a series of best-selling children’s books by Enid Blyton, which includes the beloved texts The Enchanted Wood and The Magic Faraway Tree

The series details the adventures of the Thompson siblings, Jo, Bessie and Frannie, after they move to the English countryside and discover a magical tree in the Enchanted Wood near their home. They befriend the residents of the fantastical tree, who transport the siblings to unfamiliar worlds which backdrop their varying adventures.

It is not yet clear whether the movies will follow the plot of one specific novel, or simply use Blyton’s world as the basis for an entirely new story.

The Magic Faraway Tree Cast

In addition to Nicola Coughlan, Nonso Anozie and Jessica Gunning, it has been announced that The Magic Faraway Tree movie will feature Dustin Demri-Burns as Saucepan Man, Mark Heap as Mr. Oom Boom Boom, and Oliver Chris as Mr. Watzisname.

Lenny Henry, Michael Palin and Simon Russell Beale are also reportedly on board. Per Variety, they are set to portray wise men from the Land of Know-Alls.

The first cast members to be announced were Claire Foy and Andrew Garfield, who will play the Thompson siblings’ parents, Polly and Tim.

“Andrew and Claire are exquisite performers and I feel so spoiled to have them for this film,” director Ben Gregor said at the time of the announcement. “They are the cornerstones of our big hearted world and the perfect people to bring our lovely script to life.”

It has not yet announced whether the roles of Jo, Bessie and Frannie have been cast.

The Magic Faraway Tree Release Date

There is currently no confirmed release date for The Magic Faraway Tree film. However, production has reportedly just begun so a 2025 release is likely.
