Is there anything better than a celebrity wearing something we can, well, actually afford? Whenever we see our favourite celebrities step out in something priced under $200, we can’t help it: we immediately want to buy it. Designer clothes are great and all — don’t get us wrong, a Chanel bag is on everyone’s wish list — but sometimes a good old fashioned bargain is exactly what the soul (and wallet) needs.

So when an A-list actress wears a pair of affordable shoes on a red carpet, we take note. And when that red carpet happens to the Golden Globes, we start to really notice — and add to cart.

Black Panther star Lupita Nyong’o has done just that, opting for a pair of affordable Aldo ‘Leventer’ heels for her turn on the red carpet on Sunday. However, the shoes in question weren’t just affordable — they are currently on sale. Priced at US$45 on the Aldo website (that’s about AU$63), the silver pumps make the perfect party season update, complete with a platform lift and strappy stiletto heel.

Pairing the heels with a custom, blue fringe Calvin Klein dress, Nyong’o didn’t hold back on the glamour, looking all the part a modern day movie star. Plus, with her affordable take on footwear, the actress proved she’s a cool, regular celebrity — with two feet firmly planted in the real world. If only our closets also included that Calvin Klein dress…

Aldo’s current stockist, The Iconic, doesn’t have the Leventer style, although it is still available (on sale!) on the US site. However, if you’re looking for something close to Nyong’o’s silver version, the Umude and Subrylla styles are as close as you’re going to get. Plus, the Umude is a mere $29, with the barely-there straps making for a seriously on-trend staple this summer.

So, if your New Year resolution is to stop spending so much money, maybe it’s time to take a leaf out of Lupita’s book and head to the high street next time you’re going to the Golden Globes. Or, you know, your colleague’s wedding or something. Party on!
