In the sartorial line up of It Girl bags, it’s hard to come past one that holds quite the same legacy of The Row’s Marguax Tote. After the compact crossbody bag renaissance that saw the likes of designers like Jacquemus take over our shopping carts, Margaux has returned as our elevated faithful. A carry all, that is as functional as it is timeless.
Some how, it’s been almost a decade since we were first introduced to the bag, debuting in 2018, the years since have seen social feeds adorned with a herd of influencers and a-list models alike nursing the bag like a second limb.
Like all legacy accessories, it comes with a high premium which for the humble shopper is usually price tag and sadly in our neck of the woods here in Australia, proximity. As much as we covert her, Marguax is not an easy piece to pin down. Buying the bag straight from the source is a near impossible feat with no viable Row store and re-sellers like Depop, Vestiare and the Real Real can be extortionate unless you dedicate a significant portion of your life hunting.
With it’s perennial cool-girl design, the languid leather (or suede) feel and the iconic domed base shape. Made in a collection of sizes from small to extra-large, it’s hard to find anything that exudes quite the same 90s era minimalism. So what to do?
As it turns out, the renewed interest has done a world of good for other labels to release their own oversized, bespoke versions of the bag. Many with the same signature details, from the buttery leather to the curved structure. After all, the Olsen worship is something we will likely not move on from. So with that said, here we have outlined some of our favourites.
