Fact: Strong disulphide bonds are essential for healthy-looking hair.
These strong, permanent chemical bonds are formed between sulfur atoms of cysteine amino acids that exist within your hair’s keratin protein. And they’re responsible for your hair’s texture, determining everything from structure, to strength and shape.
Typically disulphide bonds are incredibly stable, however when you dye your hair, chemically treat it with perms or keratin treatments, or use hot tools everyday they can start to break down.
Which is why, if you do any or all of the above, you need to integrate bond repair into your hair wash days — and that’s where TYPEBEA’s RDS Bond Technology comes in.
Founded by musician Rita Ora and Vida Glow entrepreneur Anna Lahey, TYPEBEA developed RDS Bond Technology to address the hair damage the duo were experiencing themselves and seeing their friends struggle with everyday.
“My hair’s been through it all — blow dries, bleach, back-to-back shoots, you name it,” Ora tells marie claire.
“We built TYPEBEA to grow stronger strands from the roots, and now our new Repair range takes hair health one step further, repairing damage from split ends to inside the hair shaft,” she explains. “It’s our root-to-tip philosophy in action, giving you hair that’s stronger, shinier and truly resilient. I’m so proud of this next evolution.”
Hair damage is so prevalent, Lahey agrees.
“Almost 60 per cent of women are concerned about hair damage due to heat styling, colouring and chemical treatments, and dry and frizzy hair is the number one concern globally,” she tells us.
“Developing our Repair range was no small feat. With RDS Bond, we’ve built a unique multi-layered approach to repair; hydrolysed keratin 91 per cent homogenised to human hair to rebuild, powerful antioxidants to defend, and nutritive complexes to add lasting shine,” Lahey shares. “It’s a true performance system, designed to transform hair in just one use.”
The brand’s RDS Bond Technology contains three complexes that address the repair, defence and shine associated with healthy-looking hair.
The repair complex contains New Zealand sheep’s wool-derived hydrolysed keratin (which is almost identical to human hair on a molecular level) binds directly to damaged strands. Ultimately rebuilding disulphide bonds inside the hair’s cortex for 80 per cent less breakage and 52 per cent stronger hair.
The defend complex is enriched with encapsulated antioxidants (read: ferulic acid, vitamin C and E) to protect hair from UV, pollution and split ends for hydrated, smooth strands.
While the shine complex blends together banana, pineapple and cacao extracts to enhance moisture levels in the hair, promoting hair that is glossy and 37 per cent shinier (without the stiffness protein-heavy formulas can cause).
Want to try TYPEBEA’s RDS Bond Technology out for size? The brand has created a succinct four-step hair ritual to ensure you can get the most out of the hair repair technology as possible.

Step one: R·1 Pre-Wash Damage Repair Mask.
A weekly hair treatment, the Damage Repair Mask has been formulated to be applied to damp or dry hair, and left to marinate for 20 minutes, prior to shampoo. It hydrates, softens, and detangles hair, and gets the bond-repairing process started, sealing the hair and minimising frizz.
Step two: R·2 Damage Repair Shampoo
Unlike traditional shampoos, this pH-balanced formula hydrates and cleanses, gently lifting excess oil and product build-up from the scalp. Plus, the milky lather protects strands from snapping when wet.
Step three: R•3 Damage Repair Conditioner
On standard hair wash days, this creamy conditioner smooths, hydrates and repairs dry, split and damaged ends without weighing hair down. But when your hair feels and looks extra dry and damaged, the brand has adapted the final step of a traditional hair ritual to address the issue.
Step four: R•4 Intense Repair Leave-In Treatment
After shampooing with R·2, skip conditioner, and towel-dry your hair. Apply one to three pumps of R·4 from root to tip, and let it stew for three minutes, but don’t rinse your hair. Instead comb and style as usual to get the most out of the bond-repairing leave-in treatment.
